I found it very funny, why would people ‘ flock’ somewhere because of Cummings or any other idiot going there?

Ha! That plaque made me laugh.
It's just a knock on effect, people who had never heard of it then research it and decide it's somewhere they'd like to visit.

Happens with all sorts of places.
At least the 'Top Attractions in Barnard Castle', according to TripAdvisor, actually look quite interesting:

There are some towns where TripAdvisor struggles to find anything of interest, with the local branch of McDonalds quite often making the list!

Good for the area but if I was watching that a idiot like Cummings had gone there I wouldn’t be saying, Oh, I know let’s go there haha
As Mamya says, if you are into buildings and one is bought to your attention then you will probably go. It's simply a form of advertising.

I doubt anyone is going because of Cummings.

Maybe no5 but the media did have a slant on that and said it was because of him, hilarious indeed
Barnie is my local town and its always 'bustling'. Its a lovely town with all sorts of attractions and it's packed in the summer with day trippers and caravanners as well as locals. I doubt very much Cummings has anything to do with it but the N.E. has to report something, thin pickings at the moments lol!

Absolutely APG,Barney is a lovely place but for NE news to say this was so silly haha
After the shortage of opticians appointments they are going to test their eyesight. (^_*)
Publicity, is the answer. I, personally, love Barnard Castle and am looking forward to introducing Mr. J2 to it and the Bowes Museum this autumn in the Northumberland holiday we have booked.

What I really loved is something I heard on radio - so I can't send a link, sorry. Apparently the local optician has erected a sign which says 'Approved by H.M. Government'. He's doing tremendous business. :)
Much cheaper than going to Lourdes or Knock for the afflicted and some say it's a site for sore eyes.
douglas, you are a card!!
Jourdain, Barnard Castle is no where near Northumberland -its in County Durham lol!
A.P.G/ - I know Castle Barnard is in Durham, I live in the North, in Yorkshire, I've visited it. It is still not far from where we shall be staying in the neighbouring county of Northumberland.
