Will know how abusive the public can be , the wearing of masks from the 24th is going to make matters worse,
Scenario: man / woman walks into store without one
Assistant asks politely “ please wear a mask”
Customer NO!
What then?
For all I agree with it , it can not be policed

FF, the Spanish have the ever present threat of the armed Guardia Civil who seem to have a more “hands on “ approach than our police force.

A friend of a friend works in a garden centre. She caught a chap shoplifting and when she challenged him he threatened to knife her and left the store. She didn't see a knife but it was very frightening for her.
the (as above) scenario won't happen. the refusal of the maskless face will be outside the door with the head-of-the-queue bouncers, who will say (politely or otherwise)

"yer name's not down, yer not comin' in"
What then? Shopkeeper refuses to serve customer and asks him/her to leave the premises.

Roo, having worked in retail myself, it’s a thankless task, it’s the morons that you remember more than the more nicer customers

And that Danny, is where the abuse would begin
People I know who live in Spain tell me that people comply with what they are asked to do and that there are no such arguments. Peer pressure perhaps as well as more of a sense of duty and reasonableness. We do some to have more than our fair share of people who don't like being expected to be guided or told what to do
Our situation is that we have a member of Staff outside the front door monitoring the queue. If anyone has a click `n' collect order then they can jump the queue and go straight in. We are allowed to deny entry to anyone not wearing a mask (As I understandf the Government guidelines).

I personally would do that particular job (I used to walk the queue and inform parents that their children weren't allowed in (Under-16s) and didn't care how far they'd come or how long it had taken them.

I'm sure that we'll have signage in place by then and if we don't then the store Manager will back us up with any irate customers. They'll simply have to get used to it. Any we find in store will be asked to put their mask on or leave - either with a member of Staff/Security or the Police!

Stephen , the police federation have already said they can’t be expected to leave erstwhile more serious crimes to go to a shop an£ enforce the wearing of a mask
Bobbi, the police will attend if they are not engaged at the time with a more serious matter.
My local Co Op gives priority service to NHS workers.
I do remember similar questions being asked at the time of the smoking ban- what would bar staff/shop staff/bus drivers do about people who refused to cooperate?
As much as I abhor the futility of this latest madness, the fact is that no shop has to serve anyone with anything for any reason and they don't have to explain why. If they don't comply they don't get served, end of.

3Ts , Arh but can shops afford not to in these uncertain times?
As much as I don't want to wear a mask, I know I will have to comply, but it will be off the very second I am outside the shop! I bet some will outright refuse though.
I think that it was a mistake imposing a fine as it will not really be feasible for it to be implemented.
people entering my hospital MUST wear a mask or they won't get in.
All the staff must wear a mask, all day, except lunch.
"Wear a mask"

"I have breathing problems"

"Oh, okay, in you go then"

Utter farce.
Douglas, anyone exempt from wearing a mask must provide proof e.g a doctor's note.
It's amazing it works in other countries isn't it.
Bobbisox at 8.54am - that very thought crossed my mind.

Supermarkets will enforce it, because turning away the odd customer won't make much of a difference to them, but what about a small independent shop, already working on thin margins, and who may be as close to the wall as it's possible to be, would they turn away a customer? I'm not sure I would if I was in their position.
