Incompetence is a Built in feature not a Bug, in Boris Johnsons Government.
Since Boris doesn't cherish much beyond the Idea of Himself as a Figure of Greatness
The safe bet is his plan to merge the Foreign office with the Dept for International Development, belongs to the category of "Gestural Distraction.

Be saving you money, Gully. (in the unlikely circumstance of you paying tax)
gulliver...you are clearly not impressed with Boris Johnson or his government..so who would you suggest could be a useful replacement and explain why they were not installed after the last election.
how is "govt are incompetent" news? Since there has been a govt, there have been things people like about each one and some they don't
Dear Gulliver, I found your post a little hard to read due to random use of capital letters.
I would not merge the International Development Dept., I'd abolish it and set up a much, much smaller fund for the relief of people after emergencies.
I disagree.
Incompetence is endemic in this Government. It is not there on purpose or deliberately manufactured. It is the result of people who share the same dogma, and who have the same abilities (or more accurately, inabilities) as their contemporaries.
As for International Development and the Foreign Office merging, that is a no brainer thing to do. Obviously it is not a merger, it is an hostile takeover.
It is straight out of Cummings plan to reorganise Westminster and Whitehall, and not something made up on the fly to take attention away from the Corona fiasco.

Gromit . I always thought thats why Cummings was planted. To slowly but surely destroy No 10 , from the inside.
Gulliver1
After Margaret Thatcher the Conservative Party became moribund and that led to 13 years of Labour Governments.
To get back into power, Cameron made the Conservative Party softer and less radical. To many, that was a betrayal. Boris is a realignment for the Tories, a return to its core values.
Except Boris and his intake are not radical thinkers and are mostly dull journey men and women.
Ideal conditions for someone like Cummings who has ideas and know how power works to realise those ideas.
So Cummings doesn’t want to destroy No.10, he wants to update it.
Pleased as I am with the food voucher decision, it has to be said it was a policy drawn up by a footballer. Where were Boris’s actual advisers?
Question Author
He did live for a time in Russia though Gromit. Suspicious.
Question Author
You mentioned Cameron Gromit, it is Cameron, Brown, and Blair. (TGM] who are opposing This idea . Blast from the past.
Working on the policy in the OP, jno?
At least the Tories didn't try to take the credit for Mr Rashford's scheme. Unlike Liebore.
Jno

The Secretary of State for Work and Pensions was advising Boris on meal vouchers for poor children.

She does a terrible job of impersonating anything like a competent Cabinet Minister, but her Ken Clark/Winston Churchill impersonation is quite good.

if you have children its your job to feed them,
some parents are asking for money instead of vouchers,
the pubs and bookies will not accept the vouchers when they open
It's the New Normal, Gordie. The Gov. want everyone dependent on them.
^ Jordy. sorry.
Its an excellent decision and if it is getting up the noses of the lefties and liberals then it must be the right policy.
Question Author
Sounds more like its upsetting the radicalised right.
