I’ve just finished watching the above Panorama program and I must say that I was totally underwhelmed. Nick Wallis (the presenter) stated that he had spent 10 years investigating the scandal; well I could have made that program after reading half a dozen copies of Private Eye.

There was no mention in the program that a large number of senior managers at the Post Office responsible for this scandal need to be goaled.

Meant to watch that, need to watch it on the iPlayer.
yes, well, you know what happens when anyone at the BBC expresses an opinion. It's almost as bad as pulling down a statue.
Didn’t watch Panorama.
But Private Eye have done this story in depth for many years, so I doubt there was anything new in the programme.
The fact that it has been done prime time on telly might mean the Royal Mail can’t ignore the bad press anymore, and may have to face up to its respinsibilities.
I caught the last minute of it. What have the Post Office done?
So , what's this all about ?
As said, this has been rumbling on for tears and is nothing less than shameful.

Lives and reputations ruined.
Gromit's got it right, I think: in terms of national impact there's a big gap between stories (however detailed) in a satirical magazine and on nationwide FTA telly.
It's the one where lots of post office owners were charged with fraud/sacked for allegedly taking out money when it turned out the accounting systems were at fault allegedly (settled out of court). Some had commited suicide by then
* Years, though tears too no doubt
Just read it. Shocking!

If you have been following this appalling scandal (through Private Eye), you will know that despite the sub-postmasters victory in the High Court, they received paltry redress with each having to pay an average of £86k to cover costs.

In an attempt to obtain some sort of justice, the Postmasters Alliance is seeking redress because of the maladministration by the government in the failure of its statutory duty to oversee and manage the Post Office.
