it's a riot.Somebody throws a bike in the direction of a police horse, the horse bolts, the policewoman is thrown off the horse and the crowds cheer. The riot police should all be out if this continues and more people arrested. The protests should be stopped, now.

Haven't manipulated any Covid stats but, sure, if you want to randomly drag an unrelated and false accusation in then be my guest.
Also, yes, I am concerned about what these protests will mean for the CoronaVirus epidemic. Then again, it will be difficult to disentangle the causes of a potential second wave when these protests are coming at more or less the same time that the lockdown is being eased officially.
Riots get out of hand when one side or the other stops caring about proper behaviour.

Eh
Isn't a riot something out of hand anyway ?
//I hope they get the wrongdoers, almost all was caught on film. //

Conviently wearing masks like they actually care about the covid risk. You might be virtually housebound Mamyalynne but many of us have diligently obeyed the rules to protect ourselves and our fellow humans. I have left my house about three times in the last 8 weeks and one was a hospital appt yesterday. No excuses. They had no business being there during this pandemic. We might just as well be issued suicide pills by the government.
Fair point, tony -- typing too fast. "Protests get out of hand..."

// these people complain that they are targeted by police here and in the U.S. and wonder why. ... //

Why is this such a popular chain of thought these days? "These people are totally irresponsible so naturally that's an excuse to copy their behaviour?" It's utterly illogical and utterly stupid that you can take your own arguments seriously. The police are meant to be a professional force and capable of conducting themselves better, and holding themselves to higher standards of behaviour -- and, when they fall short, they should be accountable. Why is this such an unreasonable demand? And then maybe they should be careful not to reach snap judgements. In the UK this is perhaps less of a problem because most officers don't carry lethal weapons, and the existence of an Independent Complaints Commission means that any potential breaches are investigated impartially. In the US, of course, police are routinely armed and the result is that snap judgements are much more fatal.

Don't drag me into your squabbles, I want those who did wrong punished and my private life has sod all to do with it.

The point I was making is once you get yet another thread on a topic that has been done all day and it's late at night ,it brings out the shoot em up brigade.
They bring shame on themselves and God knows how many will fall foul of the virus from this awful assembly of todays anarchic and feral populace. It's sickens me to the core.

Time you went to bed, jimbo.
//Despite the comforting stories many like to tell about the progress we've made there's still loads to be done to address systemic racism and inequality. Be honest about those problems and try to do something about them. //

Certainly and now is not the time. Injuring animals and desecrating a war memorial is not the way to do it and does not further their cause. They are no better than any other organisation that has already been proscribed as an illegal organisation. They shoud now have to forfeit any rights they once enjoyed as they obviously don't appreciate that privilege and should not be defended for their despicable methods of drawing attention to their cause.
When is the time? I'd agree that now is not the time only in the sense that the time was like centuries ago. Better late than never, I suppose.

Also -- just being a little flippant here -- 2020's been a crazy year already, what harm in adding in renewed energy for the anti-racism movement?

Oh right ho. And you type reams of script all about models, perils and second waves of this virus and then you expect ppeople to take you seriously after writing that. That's it. Good night.
Oh, don't be so precious. Just a little levity.
For a doctor of philosophy he don't half talk some crap.
I want police to be held to higher standards than the baying mob. I didn't realise that this was regarded as "crap". And I certainly can't take seriously any criticism from somebody whose proposed solution was to "read the Riot Act then open fire" -- a solution which falls flat at the first hurdle given that the Riot Act was repealed over 50 years ago.

If you are unhappy with the liberal approach and considerable leeway afforded by the British Police then perhaps it really is time to adopt the methods of the CRS and Chinese Police. Be careful what you wish for. Baton rnds are already here and so are CS gas ferrets.
The Police woman didn't fall of her horse. The horse was attacked and it bolted, it ran close to a traffic light which hit the riders head, knocked her backwards off the horse causing injuries to her back when she landed, broke three ribs and punctured her lung. She is currently in hospital.
The horse returned by itself to it's stable.
These people have nothing to protest about in this country.
I watched a live feed for some time this afternoon and 90% of the people there were taking selfies or performing for the cameras. Carrying inane and meaningless slogans and abusing the Police who were commendably restrained and professional. Virtue signallers the lot of them.
I wish there was some way of identifying them and stopping any benefits, university grants or social assistance of any kind until the damage and Policing bill is paid.
Virtue signallers or anarchists the lot of them - they make me sick.
How very convenient for the lawless are these Covid masks.
I am not a racist - but I'm being driven more and more towards becoming one.
I'm pretty tolerant - but that too is being quickly eroded.
