I’m betting the top man and the shareholders don’t lose out.

I hope the shareholders don't lose out. The country needs their money for reinvestment to establish new jobs.
Yes. Everyone should have a guaranteed job for life.
Unfortunately, naomi, this is happening almost everywhere, and might possibly continue to do so. Air Canada recently laid off, or is about to, 20,000 employees: https://www.cbc.ca/news/business/air-canada-layoffs-1.5572596
That's really irritating! Where am I going to get my next Roller from now? I'm down to my last three as well!

Awful, just awful, sanmac.
Groundsman, jim?
As yet, none of the top men have lost their jobs – they must be doing something right.
During the Depression, many top-men lost everything financial and topped themselves off by leaping from the top-floor of their executive towers.
Who told you life was fair, Hymie?
Damn – I knew there was something wrong with my logic.
Judging by your first post Hymie, there definitely is something wrong with your logic.

On any given day on this site there will be people who want the lockdown to continue, presumably because their income is guaranteed (could be because of independent means, their income from their jobs is all but guaranteed, such as teachers, those in receipt of benefits (and therefore don’t care about the lockdown because their benefits aren’t affected) or any number of other reasons. In the real world, however, people are losing jobs and the economy is becoming fubarred.

Those wanting the lockdown to continue would soon change their tune if they were personally financially affected.

Don't want to spoil your day, DD, but benefits have increased by £80 per month. (presumably for the duration of the lockdown)
If they're careful, they'll be able sign on in a Roller thus creating demand. He's a smart cookie, our Rishi.
It is happening everywhere - Sunseeker (the yachtmaker in Poole) has announced similar (by percentage) job cuts. It's all very well scoffing that this will upset the rich but that's not the issue, it's the workers - this will affect everyday normal people that live amongst us.

Precisely Prudie. Something that regularly goes right over the heads of the hard of thinking. This is about ordinary people's livelihoods. No business - no jobs. It's as simple as that.
No business, no share dividends either!
^^^I genuinely find it astonishing that people fail to grasp that most simple of concepts.
