I see Trudeau is banning gun ownership in Canada.Will the gun ban be like Britains ,where criminals,drug dealers and gang members are all exempt from the ban?

Trudeau is not banning gun ownership in Canada.

The Canadian Government is banning a type of gun - assault-style weapons.

Trudeau said:

"These weapons were designed for one purpose and one purpose only: to kill the largest number of people in the shortest amount of time. There is no use and no place for such weapons in Canada”

It will not longer be permitted to buy, sell, transport, import or use military-grade assault weapons in Canada.

The ban will make it more difficult to get your hands on these weapons.

ynnafymmi, most guns in this country are owned legally. The owners are licensed and police checked. People who want guns for criminal purposes don't apply for licences.

Canada is banning assault rifles.

In the UK, fully automatic and submachine-guns are prohibited weapons and require explicit permission from central government to own.

Generally, such permits are not available to private citizens.

False news no he is not. The Canadian Government is banning assault-style weapons.

Rifles and shotguns used for hunting and target practice will continue have the already stringent rules on ownership.

Jo Cox was killed by a man armed with a dagger and Lyra McKee was shot by someone with a handgun.

In neither case was an assault weapon used.

The fact the poor Lyra McKee's killing was such big news (Jo Cox was stabbed, so I'm disregarding her death for this purpose), was partly due to the rarity of gun related murder in the UK. In the most recent year with completed data (2017) American firearm murders numbered 14,542.

The two stats are not really comparable are they ynnafymmi?
