Just realised looking at diary my car tax is up today. In northern ireland.
Emailed dva dvlni etc...some emails bounced back but i managed get through to one dva customer services ( hopefully )
Im abroad, trying get home. Concerned clampers will seize my car...its parked outside my friends house....ive tried make SORN but ive no access to logbook and 16 digit chassis number etc.
Can car be seized clamped and taken....given cvd virus is this likely....im sure im not only one stuck abroad but you know the clamping squad and tax office its all about money.
Tried different calls to dva NI but just getting answer phone seems theyre snowed under.
I imagine pounds and clamping companies going to jump on this for a few quid , exploitation....
What options open for me ?
Cheers.

DD/ Auto renewal may help going forwards
If the car is in the road at your friend's house you can't SORN it.
You can tax your car online - I can't remember what details you need to have, but probably only the registration number.

Wish i could do it online but ive no logbook ...no 16 digit....

How ?????.?????????

Tax office hasnt even sent me reminder tax is due which normally happens 1 mth beforehand.....
I would contact local police authority and explain the situation..they may be able to do a police aware kind of thing till you can get home ?
Does this get you to the online tax services?

Just a reminder Jack.....if your M.O.T is due, it has been extended for 6 months so that will not prevent you getting road tax.
Do you have a neighbour who holds a key for you so they could open the approprate letter and email/text you what you need.
I think the chances of getting clamped are slim anyway. It's only likely to be picked up if someone borrows your car and drives past certain ANPR cameras or gets stopped by police

anything helpful here ?

I think it would be best if you can actually speak to someone in authority such as the pertinent police station..advise them of the situation...If they can post a police aware thing it would stop tickets/clamping ?
i think it's really unlikely to get clamped unless youve parked it in a dickish place. My husband didnt have tax for 5 months and not a peep
I could be wrong but don't you have 14 days to renew tax
I would imagine the DVLA is probably snowed under at the moment so contacting the police might be a quicker option. Perhaps your friend could do that for you, either by phone or a visit. Also a car can be taxed at a post office, unfortunately you still need the same documents but your friend might be able to get some advice from them.
I doubt the police would be interested. They're not interested in dumped vehicles and years ago when my friend's car broke down and was left on double yellow lines overnight we phoned the police in the morning to tell them and they basically said "Tough, nothing to do with us you will still get a ticket" I don`t know what they do in NI but around here, they drive around looking for untaxed vehicles and clamp them and stick an 'Untaxed Vehicle' sticker on the windscreen - you don`t need to be driving around.
DVLA usually send out reminders with 16 digit number about 2 weeks prior to expiry so you may need to wait for it to arrive if you are still within time then you can do it online.
furrypusscat, the tax is due today and pumpjack is stranded abroad.
Pumpjack, I notice there is a DVLA office in Coleraine NI, their phone number is 0300 200 7861. Apologies if this is the same number you used.

i thought you could only get whole months of car tax? it's extremely unusual for it to run out on the 28th (unless it's February)

Thanks for all your help.

I suppose best question to ask...how can i get this 16 digit number so as i can tax online.

As i say all lines are down.
Greedy police and clamping companies will take it regardless, theyll exploit peoples positions in favour of funds
Is there anyone at (or able to access) your UK home who could open the renewal notice for you?
