This is heartbreaking.
I just simply cannot imagine what it must be like losing a child - my kids are the most important thing in the world to me, and I have absolutely no doubt the same applies for all parents.
But...
This is news because it's exceptional. The news that otherwise healthy people in their 20s, 30s and 40s are reported on is because it's exceptional. They are the exception that proves the rule.
The fact is the vast vast majority of people will survive, some of whom may well only have mild symptoms, so (and I fully accept this is going to annoy people) at what point do we learn to accept the losses, get people out of the lockdown and focus on the economy?
If the lockdown continues for too long, if as a result of the lockdown people remain furloughed, and if companies start to go to the wall, at some point surely we need to run the risk and end the lockdown.
Frankly, if the economy becomes becomes fubarred, the issues people are currently facing will pale in comparison.

Andy Hughes - I favour the herd immunity approach. I’m no expert (unlike so many on AB that appear to be!), but it seems to me the more common sense option. If we emerge from lockdown in 2 or 3 weeks or 2 or 3 months, the virus will still be with us.

I don't know if it's been put forward elsewhere but it all smells a bit like the austerity thing.
Once a course of action is established it's seen as heretical to voice an alternative and it just rumbles on.
We need the scientists to save us before too many hands are thrown in the air and folk just go back to normal.
