Unusual to get that many women lying about the same thing but there you go.
Question Author
Jury returned 'not guilty' verdict on 12 of the charges with another charge 'not proven'.
Question Author
True, Roy, but the jury are the ones who heard all the evidence. We only know what we have read in the newspapers and heard on the tv and radio. :-/
Do you get asked about any political affiliations when you do jury service?
Question Author
I would imagine the jury were well vetted by both sides. 8 of those selected were women.

I dont think we have been given the whole picture - why do people get it wrong ? in the case 'we' tried we convicted as the fella admitted a stolen kiss and told the judge we didnt believe the gigantic window dressing that followed

done to favour a civil suit we later read

poor mr roundtree who did NOT assault the actress in Game of Thrones on waterloo concourse
the leddy said on day one "that is not him!" and it STILL went on for a week ! acquitted and it was estimated that it cost him 30 big ones to defend.

no nothing like america - you are asked by the judge if you know anyone - there are a few other questions - and both sides may NOT be allowed to ask potential jurors questions
// Do you get asked about any political affiliations when you do jury service?//

we didnt
and since it was a muslim accusing a sikh, we werent asked what our religion was either altho we were pretty white ( christiam)
Vetting is not a part of the jury selection process. Finding an accused innocent certainly doesn't mean that witnesses have lied, it simply indicates that the prosecution didn't prove that an offence was committed.
in the case I was the accused in, that some fun loving ABer was making cheap comments over a few nights ago,

my accuser forgot to tell the police a judge had already considered the matter and dismissed it !
oo er Mrs, I didnt when the bizzies came around calling.

Innocent or what ? the police man ( bizzy) said - I was going to spend the whole after noon on this
early shower I said ......
you have all the fol de rol of court procedure
and all rise
and the judge dancing around sorry poncing around in a red dress
and all the other ritual

and it always surprises me amid this - - it is obvious when a witness is lying. - sort of neon sign and klaxon going ner ner
[clearly not every witness does that]
My 'judgement' is what I said the other day, as in pick holes in say four or five of the cases as, for example, one of his dinner guests, a business woman, came forward and said that the so-called victim wasn't present at the dinner that she claimed to have gone to before AS groped her. Build your defence like that and then there's a doubt read across to the others - there is of course, the 'not proven' and that means that the case remains open to further evidence down the line but AS is free to go for the moment, the proverbial 'smoke goes with a fire'.....
Should never have been named ( and shamed) till the case got to court, another innocent man suffering through wrongful accusations !
DTC, the 'not proven' verdict is an acquittal, and definitely not open to 'further evidence down the line'.
// Do you get asked about any political affiliations when you do jury service?//

No (not in Scotland anyway)
Whatever any of us think about the man, he has been declared innocent of all charges bar the one 'not proven' and that must be the end of it.

I read that he had said that he ".....could have behaved in a better manner" which is, at least, tacit acknowledgement that the aggrieved women may have had a point....
why hasnt there been a headline in the gutter press

hot fat in Bute House ?
in one of the recent GMC cases ( not criminal, licensing)
an accused doctor was required to resign from his post

and then the GMC found her allegations unbelievable and untrue, on the low hurdly of balance of probabilities

//it simply indicates that the prosecution didn't prove that an offence was committed.//

That basically sums up the not proven verdict
