Linguistic fashion.
Used to be, basically, or, well.
Some on here, often “first” posters, begin a question with SO...I postulate that it’s the same person playing games.
I doubt it's deliberate. I've noticed myself doing it lately and I can't stop it. So irritating.
It's the new annoying speech pattern inherited from students.

They started the annoying habit of ending each sentence on a rising note, like it's a question?

The result of watching too many Australian soaps and absorbing their speech patterns.

Hopefully it will pass … ?

So, I hope it does!!!
I think it began as a trend to indicate that the person about to give an answer had understood what the questioner was on about.
A lot of whites now sound like blacks.
Is it the music?
So, that explains that then.
So, well, basically, am like, you know, what am I, you know like, thinking, sort of, you know, about me, and like, sort of doing my thing, if you know what I mean like?
Not forgetting the latest imports from the colonies, 'lockdown', 'reach out to' and 'wait, what?'.
Lock and load?
Or is that the preserve of riots?
Listen up!

I am not suggesting that this is your intention, but interpretation is everything.

It's a thought.
Ah yes. Noted. Thank you.
I do have a problem with anti white sentiments so prevalent, and supported by, yes, a lot of white people.
So what ? Just gives a little thinking time whilst holding your turn to speak.

You are welcome.

Personally, foe me, it's nothing to do with anti-anything sentiments.

It's simply that saying 'Black' and 'White' always sounds like it should be delivered in an Apartheid -supporting South African accent - harsh and bigoted, and I am sure you would not wish that image for yourself.
That would be bleck and wite.
Dear oh dear Theland.
You seem to have put up a bit of a black there!
So, what you're saying is, .... Why do interviewees on the TV precede every answer with 'So' ? .... I'm not sure.

And why were interviewees in the Newsnight studio wearing BBC lanyards last night?
Everybody loves a wee badge, brainiac.
