The pictures of the wrecked supermarkets are a disgrace. I'm glad the troops will be there but it's a disgrace they need to be.
It is sad they are needed.
Madness in supermarkets.

Husband is over 70. I’m much younger. Will I have to be quarantined too? How will we get food? How can I look after my 80yo dad too?
No wonder people are panic-buying.
I think it’s irresponsible of theDM to publish those headlines. It can only make things worse.

What do you think about the blanket quarantining of the elderly mamya? I reckon some will be cheesed off, like Bobbi for one LOL. Not sure how old she is.
There'll be a lot of unhappy over 70s - some still work and others are carers.
I'd rather live on beans on toast than get into any of that sort of nonsense.
Bobbi is 73, I don't want to speak for you but doubt she'll be pleased if it comes in.
ooops

speak for her
Its the Mail...they can make a sensationalist story out of Peace on Earth, goodwill to all men. Yes I am sure that all those possibilities are in the plans. It would be irresponsible to rule out any of them. Yes some of them may need to be used. Video link consultations are already in use. I am not sure how quarantining of the elderly can be enforced unless we will all have to carry our birth certificates around. Such scaremongering, reporting what might need to happen as what will happen is stupid and irresponsible in the extreme.

^^^^Yes, and just adds to the panic buying problem
the official government site also says the old and vulnerable will be told to self isolate whether they're sick or not, though it doesn't go on to talk about arresting suspected sufferers. It doesn't specify the period this will require, but I would have thought a month was the least it will take for the herd to acquire immunity.

So what are oldies meant to do if they're going to be told to stay inside for a month? Buying supplies now is rational behaviour. It's not just foods and loo rolls: how are they supposed to get medicines, for instance? They all need to be like Cloverjo's husband: marry a young person quickly.
These morons bring shame to our nation. Women and children first...not likely.
Never heard such a load of bull in my life. How this country ever lived through two world wars is a mystery to me. Nanny state!
Should anyone require an armed escort - I am available for hire, one loo roll or 100g of pasta per hour...
Perhaps we need an extra topic on Answerbank for we Septuagenarians and older to chat amongst ourselves - under 70s stay out - LOL
maggiebee, they bought stuff under the counter or from spivs, they looted bombed houses, whatever it took.
Get yer gun Shoots, you've pulled.
Would it not be sensible for anyone who is vulnerable medically to self confine ?
Yes.if possible I agree - to bring in an arbitrary age seems wrong somehow.
