... because the policies of the Church sure as hell won't :

[ from The Guardian's Rolling News (hence no link) ]

In Greece, calls are growing for the Greek Orthodox Church to listen to scientists on the issue of how best to deal with Covid-19 following its refusal to suspend ecclesiastical services and sacred rites such as Holy Communion.

Debate over the church’s controversial stance intensified after its governing body debunked any suggestion that the novel virus could be transmitted when worshippers participate in shared rituals like Communion.

In a statement Monday, the Holy Synod announced “with a sense of responsibility” that it would continue to hold services and conduct the sacrament despite public health fears raised by the issue of shared chalices.

“For the members of the church, attendance of the Divine Eucharist and the shared Cup of Life, of course cannot be a cause of transmission of illness,” the body of senior clerics said in the statement. “Believers of all ages know that attending communion, even in the midst of a pandemic, is both a practical affirmation of self-surrender to the Living God and a potent manifestation of love, which vanquishes every human and perhaps justified fear.”

As with all such matters, decisions must be taken by the individual.

Common sense doesn't always rule sadly.
Let 'em get on with it.
No he won't, god dosen't exist.
Maybe God likes some people, and not others?
as i said he dosen't exist, and according to the church god loves everyone.
According to the church... he loves people who openly worship him? Sounds a bit like a president...
Certainly didn't like me growing up, Pixie. For years I believed my mother who said thunder and lightning was god being angry with me for something I bad had done...spent an age looking up to heaven saying how sorry I was and begging him to forgive me!.... :-)
He sounds.... godlike.... xx
Perhaps true believers are looking forward to getting to heaven quicker than might have been expected without the help of the corona virus....!
The Pope was on TV today asking people to visit sick!!!
My 83 yr old neighbour is a good church going catholic and she asked me if I could get her some hand gel.

She said they are using it for services throughout the week and she thought she should get some for herself.

I had to tell her there isn’t any anywhere to be had but I would keep an eye out for some.

Who apart from you, said that?
Clearly that was no debunk at all, just a foolish claim.

I guess folk aren't obliged to attend, so unless government bans such group meetings generally one has to hope most believers are more socially responsible than to insist upon their regular attendance for the duration.
