It’s no wonder there’s a clamour to get into Westminster on both sides of the house

Yes, that should be 3.1 %
Thanks bookie
Good.

Even on £82,000 they're underpaid.
double their salary and halve their number.

That’s more like it 3Ts, I’d go for that and abolish the old boys network too ( H.of Ls )
With inflation at 1.8% that's rather a boost. Sort of salary one might be ok with for ministers, but a bit excessive for lobby fodder. (And 100%+ too much for those who thwart or try to thwart the democratic demands of the people.)
I know teachers that earn more than that.

No. Halve their salary and halve their number. There would still be plenty of applicants at £43k a pop. Add to this their generous exes (which sees them reimbursed for anything from rent or mortgage on an agreeable property down to a bath plug and a packet of crisps), a few bob thrown in for family members to act as their staff and they'd still be well off.

And that's why the country has no money.
And teachers constantly moan about how badly off they are!
i think it's way too much to be honest...
I just think you'd get a better quality MP if we paid a decent salary and if we halved their number it wouldn't cost any more.
"I just think"

That may be the issue. Apply some logic to it.

If you pay an MP double the salary, then it will attract people who want the job just for the money and not because they're skilled or have a passion for the work. That's the situation we're currently in.

More money wouldn't equal better MPs.
I think NJ is onto something there. Either that or let them keep their salaries and make expenses far harder to claim.
