As a continuation of two threads I posted recently, how is this any different to the walkers who set off in a blizzard or the surfer who jumped into a squally sea in the middle of a storm?

It’s time for proper legislation to prevent the idiocy of those events, endangering emergency services, surely?

Road closed, fair enough. But I've gone through a flood on the North Circular before now (not much choice as it's one way either side) in a low slung sports car and came out ok. Low gear, foot on clutch, revs high, test brakes on exit. Was fine. Not quite the same if you reach the point where the water is up to the roof though.

an argument that has persisted for almost as long as people have been pursuing outdoor sports. question is, where do you draw the line - what is irresponsible enough to be worthy of legislation?

bear in mind that those who rescue climbers, mountain walkers, cavers, etc are generally volunteers from those particular fields and not the emergency services.

Ignoring 'Road Closed' signs seems obviously an offence - whether it is on the books as such I don't know.

That’s my argument.......in extremis, requiring emergency services in the instances previously mentioned, it ought to be.
