Their tourist board must be tearing their hair out! I recently saw their "come to Egypt" ads and this sort of thing does them no favours.

A friend of mine has just visited Egypt on one of the posh Nile cruise holidays. She had a wonderful time, no problems, lovely staff and so on....BUT it was a luxury holiday couriered end to end, although I don't think the courier needed to do any intervening. While I don't think that patting a security guard in any airport is a good idea, I think there is something missing from the story here.
Perhaps a pat on the back in Egg wipe is an indication you are being pick pocketed ? :-)

DD 09:42, how awful, sounds like it's be more fun in a Russian Gulag!
Why on earth people go to these known hell holes is beyond me.
//emmie, Egyptian police and security personnel are not your friendly neighbourhood bobbie.//

Correct naomi,
Your average British bobby will ouse charm and friendliness whereas the Egyptian security are in de nile.
History. Ancient cultures. To broaden the mind and know the world better.
Well said OG.
Like it, retro...lol.
Unfortunately, few British people know that it is considered very rude to actually touch someone you do not personally know under Islamic / Shria Law !! I lived in Saudi Arabia for 4 years .
Doesn't say much for the guy doing the patting down. Or the system that demands that they do :-)
"Doesn't say much for the guy doing the patting down. Or the system that demands that they do"

Lots of 'missing evidence' and actual FACTS on this story O_G.

OG "History. Ancient cultures. To broaden the mind and know the world better. " - yes OG sad that these places are inhabited by such regimes.
// In backward countries you shut up and do as you're told. Silly man.//

anzaal misr - medinet Luxor - al yawm al talith - inshallah !

yeah going dere Wed - and I agree with Nigh. She clearly doesnt go around kissing security guards in Hurgardy. sensible gurl

My brudda was nearly arrested with his monocular birdie telescope in Luxor airport, and he commented later "it was lucky you speak a few words of Spanish and sorted it out" - and I said Arabic and I speak more than a few words.

It is not a sniper-scope - he uses it for birdwatching

funny how the words come out when the need arises
My nephew came over and said - "they are just about to arrest your brother you had better get over there...."

If you recollect people in Manchester were undressing All The Way ! when being searched, and getting fined. I eventually wrote to the authorities and suggested that it were ONE person who was getting it - then surely HE needed retraining. It stopped.
(they ran out of clothes to take off? hur hur hur)

there is no way around it - you just have to be herded around like sheep
Great news, "Tony Camoccio: British man arrested in Egypt released"

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-51514716

but why " been released from custody after paying about £1,000 in bail and other costs." ?
