Should The Royals Become ‘ Woke? ‘

At the recent BAFTA awards ceremony, Prince William spoke of the need for ‘diversity’ - something that was noted to have been lacking in the nominations. The question is, should the Royals take a leaf out of the Queen’s book and remain neutral, or should they, in effect, take sides by involving themselves in the issues of the day thereby exposing themselves to potential criticism? Personally, I think the Queen has the right idea. Her 'Never complain, never explain' philosophy has stood her in good stead for almost 70 years - and she remains hugely respected.

The comment from the love child of Stanley Unwin at 08.43 has got to get a mention in dispatches for world class irony. :-)

Please tell us what you mean by 'woke'
just what i was about to ask..
They should be neutral. That is part of the appeal of the monarchy.

But the younger ones are different to the old guard so in time they will start to be openly political.

Even lamenting a lack of diversity is political as it is well up on the list of the PC list.

The young will change with the times. Whether that will improve the monarchy or destroy it only time will tell.
What Tee F does "woke" mean? Sign up to all the latest PC bow locks? and then spout a load of PC verbiage about it? if so then no. The Queen, is bang on, NCNE!
It's a term that's often used as a way of having a dig at people. I think it's the current buzzword equivalent of 'right on' but I'm not sure. Some use it to mean liberal leftie luvvies (also meaningless I know)

FFemmie, definition of Woke : //alert to injustice in society, especially racism.//

It's a new one on me too.
// - woke definition: aware, especially of social problems such as racism and inequality: //
Charles has been making comments and speeches for donkey's years. Why should William be any different?
Thanks. I'm not sure why we need to invent such words but we are where we are. Should the royals be "alert to injustice in society, especially racism"? They need to tread a fine line but I think it would be wrong to ignore/be oblivious to/appear to condone injustice in society, especially racism.
Royalty should become history, which makes discussion about them being or not being "woke", moot.

OG, but they're not history - so discussion about them isn't moot.
I think that definition is too weak. It makes it sound positive when we all know it's about overreaction and excess fuss exaggerating things, and bending folk's ear by inappropriately going on about it.
"Should The Royals Become". It's about what they should become. If they become history all else is moot.
The Queen is obviously delighted about Brexit, but the most I have ever read about her displeasure with the EU was, "a raised eyebrow".
She got it right & it said more than a long speech. God bless you Ma'm!
Question Author
OG, whether or not the Royals should be booted out is another issue entirely.
The Royals should not get involved , they should perform the duties in which they were born to do and take their lead from the Queen .
Prince Charles has been "taking sides" for years.

If William wants to be woke, there is plenty to be woke about, the wokeness of privelege for example.

On the point he raised, he is sadly joining the ranks of the diversity Worriors.
If a movie is good, people will go to see it regardless of the skin colour of the actors.
Surely awards should be won on merit?
Now boards of directors are also being required to have black directors, again, using skin colour in place of merit.
The police have done this, also the BBC, and of course the Labour Party is notorious for just about every type of diversity going, ethnicity, gender, and soon I expect sexuality quotas as well.
It's crazy.
There's no doubt that the generations below the Queen are changing and are more aware and outspoken - I think it's generally a good thing even though I may not always agree with their stance on certain topics.
