For a special bonus who can tell me why it's a monumentally silly idea?

Then half of Pakistan will emigrate to Scotland and slip over the border to England?
McMohammeds by the ton.
I don't understand the part about a Scottish visa system. Surely, if people want to go and live in Scotland, they'll just do it, without any visa formalities.
bonkers woman, she can't see what is patently obvious,
no one is going to pay for a visa to go north of the border, or am i missing something.
The woman is one slice short of a haggis !
You don't even have to click on the link to know who 3T's talking about, wretched woman.
Oh and, I before E, except after C. Remember? xx
How's this for a theory? Nichola Sturgeon has spent so much time and effort in banging the drum for Scotland, and in saying that it's such a special place, that she now really believes her own hype, and that Scotland is so special, that it should be regarded as being completely and utterly separate from England?
Yes I think, emmie and b-b, you are both missing the point.

Ms Sturgeon's plans do not relate to Migration between England and Scotland (which of course is unrestricted in the same was as migration between Somerset and Cheshire is).

What she wants is for migration into Scotland from abroad to be the subject of Scottish policy. The UK's current immigration policy discriminates on the basis of race. I believe the post-Brexit plan is to set up a non-discriminatory policy based on whether the people wanting to come here have skills or qualities the UK wants.

The SNP does not want Scotland to be subject to that new policy. Of course it neglects, once again, to accept that it is simply a part of the UK and that anyone arriving in Scotland who may be acceptable to them may not be acceptable under the policy applicable to the rest of the UK and unless Hadrian's Wall is rebuilt, they will simply be able to move to England/Wales/NI.

More than monumentally silly. Absolutely stark raving bonkers.
Well the forecasts are that Scotland’s population will decline without sufficient immigration so some form of distinctive approach may be needed.
Is this an attempt at serious debate or “bash the Scots” again

You decide :-)
I wish some on here would not tar us all with the same brush, the quicker we can get rid of Nicola Sturgeon the better it will be for Scotland,
To call her bonkers yes I agree.
//Well the forecasts are that Scotland’s population will decline without sufficient immigration...//

So what's wrong with that? All responsible nations should plan to manage with at least a stable population and preferably one that sees a decline. The argument goes something like this:

"We've got too many old people and not enough young people."

"I know what we can do. We'll ship some young people in from abroad."

"Great idea. Hang on though, those young people will eventually get old themselves. Then we'll have too many old people and not enough young people."

"I know what we can do. We'll ship some young people in from abroad."

"Great idea. Hang on though...…"

Continued ad infinitum or until the countries doing the importing disappear up their own exhaust and/or the countries doing the exporting are deserted.
"Oh and, I before E, except after C. Remember? xx" That's really weird:)
Watch it TGT , the grammar lady is after you.
The full guide is :-

i before e, except after c
when the sound is like double ee

That excludes weird of course.

There are a very few exceptions to this.
Canary , every time I see your Avatar I just split my sides laughing ,it is so amusing, and so very very true . Well done.
The only exception tp my knowledge is seize, which is derived from French.
Rules are made to be broken sanmac, that was something else I was taught;-))
Here's a few that break the rule, height, either, leisure, science and foreign.
I tend to find any post with Canarys Avatar on , even makes Nicola Sturgeon look intelligent
There are lots of exceptions to this “rule”

abseil, feint, weigh, sleigh, sleight, caffeine, deign, forfeit etc etc

It really only applies usefully to the handful of words where EI/IE represent a single EE sound.

The French origin of SEIZE is misleading. The small group of CEI words are just about all from
the same French root as above.

I blame the SNP for poor legislation :-)

but none of the exceptions have the 'ee' sound.
However, we digress (somewhat). :-)
