I hope you have all registered the Chancellor's words on alignment. He does not seem to understand that although Japan is not in EU their products have to meet EU rules to be admitted.
Poor wee Britain will be standing alone against USA, Europe, China, India and the rest with no trade agreements. Non alignment with the rules for goods will mean no EU trade for those goods. Other trade deals will take years.
The outcome will be the UK will be crushed. You were warned.

Can only assume Khandro's were the deleted posts.
Aesop, as NJ points out, was the origin of the sour grapes phrase, although it was probably translated from the Greek.

From Wikipedia:

"Driven by hunger, a fox tried to reach some grapes hanging high on the vine but was unable to, although he leaped with all his strength. As he went away, the fox remarked 'Oh, you aren't even ripe yet! I don't need any sour grapes.' People who speak disparagingly of things that they cannot attain would do well to apply this story to themselves."
o god rich
you are a poor old sobersides
bring out the poo! and celebrate
Brexit is the eve of the new paradise - see 3T's thread for more brexit madness.

his thread is
when will the day be declared
( the working title is in the AB office is "when will I be certified")
er this is the best I can do

Quam tangere ut non potuit, discedens ait:
"Nondum matura es; nolo acerbam sumere."
Qui, facere quae non possunt, uerbis eleuant,
adscribere hoc debebunt exemplum sibi.

nondum matura es, nolo acergam sumere

you are not mature and I dont wanna eat sour

Phaedrus was a silver age poet ( first century ) and collected and translated them into Latin - I make no apology Boris does latin alot
“Sour grapes” as if anyone cares, refers to the practice of claiming you never really wanted in the first place that which you can’t have (from the fox or wolf or whatever in Aesop)
Which I don’t think really applies in the case of Brexit ...
Sour grapes would be the correct term if being applied to a remainer that, after the referendum result, says they never really wanted to remain in the first place.

It does not apply to people that still want to remain.
Ummmm 14.39 and 14.56, it is important to understand that anyone expressing reservations, worse: mentioning imperfections or flaws/faults, worst of all pointing out anything that is somewhat (don't mention utterly) woeful in/of anything that is British is not just anti-British but being a traitor who through magnanimity is being invited to get the fork out of here (or never to darken the border if they are outside the country).

Rich, please be aware that your beliefs, no matter whether well founded or not, are not welcome among the democratic majority because you are too un-accepting of fantasy and delusion. You will not experience tolerance there.
Karl - I know all this :-)
Actually the other way about.
...you are too keen on pushing/claiming fantasy and delusion.
(And one suspects deliberately in order to cause a reaction.)
fantasy and delusion....
well sour grapes and sex comes into it - no really
There is the same sexual ambiguity in the Greek of Babrius. The phrase there is "όμφακες εισίν" (omphakes eisin), the word omphax[10] [oops also means an underage (unripe) gurl]

I am amazed BoJo hasnt made a reference to that - the dirty dog!
oh OK
no sour grapes because we have got what 'we' wanted

more like sta Teresa ( de Avila 1580) - zair have been more problems from prayers answered than those gone unanswered ....

or later - do not pray for eet as it maybe granted ....

Karl et al, the claim of democratic success is not arithmetically well founded. In any event we in Scotland are well used to seeing the Westminster practice of ignoring democracy when it comes to the wishes of the people of Scotland. 62% voted to remain in EU and Tories lost half their seats in Scotland in the General Election. Boris is leading Englandshire to a green and pleasant land from the past which never existed. The Brexit chickens will be coming home to roost shortly (perhaps chlorinated)
I was reading about the US chickens.
It’s not the chlorine that’s the problem apparently but the s h i t that sticks to the creatures as they don’t clean their coops. And the chlorine doesn’t wash much of it off. Hence far more cases of salmonella in the US
Errr Richy Rich, we in Englandshire want you to be independent( i.e. off our over generous hands) , the Welsh too if it come to that. You see, what you fail to recognise is this. Although the term English Nationalism is liable to cause an attack of the vapours in the barren wastelands that are the rest of the UK,(You have no idea how much more so in France and Germany) that is exactly what the English achieve by default when you are "independent". Neat yeah? All we have to do is hack you off constantly until you actually vote for it. Credit where it is due.......I do my bit don't you think. All people like me need is a government in Westminster that is of the same mind. We are working on it full pelt. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
//In any event we in Scotland are well used to seeing the Westminster practice of ignoring democracy when it comes to the wishes of the people of Scotland. 62% voted to remain in EU and Tories lost half their seats in Scotland in the General Election.//

Alas, though, rich, Scotland is part of the UK. It is not an independent nation, nor is it a member of the EU in its own right. It has no more right to claim special treatment (as far as Brexit goes) as any other area that voted to Remain has. In fact, of the twelve UK "regions" (as recognised by the EU when considering their plans to abandon national identities and create parish councils that report to Brussels) only Scotland, Northern Ireland and London voted to remain. None of them has any right to claim that the "Leave" vote should not apply to them. What, in fact you are suggesting is that democracy for the electorate in those other nine regions be ignored.
As well as that , since you brought up the recent General Election, it may be well to remember that only 45% of those who voted in Scotland put their crosses next to the SNP candidate. This is only 1.4% more than the percentage polled by the Tories in the entire UK.
Togo, the wish south of the border for Scottish independence is so great that in 2014 an entire trainload of leaders was despatched north to promise anything/everything and plead for a NO vote.

Rich, with respect, a majority of Scottish voters voted in 2014 for the current situation: Scottish opinion matters not a hoot because of the numerical advantage of the rest - the 2014 result (a democratic one) effectively placed all major decisions (i.e. those dependent on votes) into primarily English hands. I accept that a lot of people are now realising this and not feeling too fond of it - which of course is why there is such pressure for a re-run of 2014.
I hate it when folk say ''we in Scotland'' attempt to speak for me. They don't and should shut the heck up and re-phrase their poison.

But, Karl, as has been shown recently, there is often a considerable difference between what the electorate wants and what their political leaders want. Whilst I have no particular views one way or the other (unless finances are discussed) I cannot understand the mania among some in England to preserve the Union. Apart from nostalgia, there is nothing for England in the arrangement other than a large bill at the end of each month.
