Just heard a plonker M.E.P. Campaigning for the Bell to be heard when the U.K. leave the EEC. Why should we celebrate his redundancy. He is trying to raise £500,000 to have the scaffolding removed from the clock face to let Londoners hear and see the clock then and for that matter see a firework show to boot.
What a waste of cash. The mans an idiot when I’m sure the majority of the UK want to stay in now. Just you guys wait until you go on holiday to our favourite European destinations later this year, especially France. They’re gonna make entering their countries difficult believe me. All the things Boris and Gove didn’t say before the referendum will bite us on the bum!. Mark my words.

have we had
blimey people keep on banging on about this !

Martin Bell ex MP and intellect commented: I am often asked about this, and I am at the end of my tether on this. Yes Bell end. and I must ask you not to refer to me as Bing Bong Bell !

Dung Shao Ping said - all this talk about bonging sounds cracked to me
Despite the strange choice of description in the OP the celebration of returned sovereignty is symbolic and should be a given. We've rung the bell for much less. Should be rung both on the 31st Jan, and again after the transition period and we've truly made a break.

And as for travelling, was no big issue prior to the EEC, no reason if should be post EU control.

But if you want to be bit on the bum, ask politely of the foreign immigration officials if they'll do you the honours.
It’s the symbolism of the act. I can’t hear it from here.
Keep the money for more practical purpose.
Non event - nobody cares anymore!
What an absolute waste of time and money.
Send the cash to the australian bushfire fighters.
'The man's an idiot' says the man who thinks we're leaving the EEC.
Then turn your radio or TV on david. Or get a boost from knowing it's occurring anyway.

£½M is likely a vast overestimation anyway, but even if it wasn't, it's a minor percentage of the nation's wealth.
Omg, I’m travelling to Lanzarote in March, will I be treat really badly?
What will I do?

What a load of baloney !
500 Grand? Who conjured that figure up? Diane Abacus? The bell chimed on New Years Eve, Remembrance Sunday, and Armistice Day. Did it cost this much on those occasions, or is this another remainiac lie? Perhaps the sum is a secret collection for the EUSSR who will be skint any time soon. For whom the bells toll indeed. Or a bribe, maybe, for one of Londonistan's officials. You know the bloke who makes all the decisions in that third world midden, like when to fly big balloons and such. The snowflakes, Hand wringers, and anti British agents are still making it up as they go along. Bless.
the majority don't want to stay in, what makes you think so.
Wishful thinking.
It is a daft idea in the circumstances.
By the time any “crowd funding” was raised it would be too late to do anything about it.
Other big clocks are available. Doesn’t anyone realise?

Never paid for a bong yet not going yo start now.
Meh - they just need to place giant speakers around the country & play a recording of the bing-bongery.

...Or make it downloadable & ask everyone to open to open their doors & windows as they play it simultaneously at full volume.
^ Apologies for the double "to open", the anticipation of the excitement to come got to me...
