To answer the OP. We'll break open a bottle of bubbly and celebrate quietly. Just as the British people quietly voted to leave the EU; quietly stuck to their guns; quietly saw through the false scaremongering and quietly voted again and again until their voices could be heard above all the shouting hysteria and powerful 'naysayers'. I suspect that most will...

Just another day in stupid land.
Well, Nige ain't got a party, so you might as well.

still gorging on sour grapes david?
If I had a party every time democracy ensured that the will of the people was enacted by Parliament, I would be partying every day the House is sitting …

so I will simply smile that the process is moving on, and leave it at that.
Not in the least 3ts. I voted for Brexit, defended Brexit.
I’m just slightly disenchanted with the way it will be implemented. I was a no deal and walk merchant. But what do I know?

we'll probably end up with no deal anyway, the EUSSR have said there is no way we'll agree a trade deal by end of 2020 and the PM is adamant about that deadline and he has the oomph to override the VBQC so there's every chance.
Ireland happy with the border checks on trade being inside the UK then?
I'll be throwing a party - but only if one of my bets is up:-)
Ireland won't be in the EU much longer, Zacs.
By the way, Airbus are expanding their UK operations. I know you were terribly worried about them closing after Brexit, so that'll be a weight off your mind.
Question Author
spicey is correct, I think once we are out many others will follow. Ireland will have to become a net contributor and that'll end their love affair with Brussels.
'Ireland won't be in the EU much longer, Zacs.'

Really, any evidence for this? I have evidence to the contrary:

NI can choose to shift the border. As for the RoI, they can make their own decisions re checks & borders.
Today's opinion is of today. After January minds might change. And if not then, then there's always New Year 2021.

Surely not that over-priced muck from around Reims and Epernay, Tora? I've a couple of bottles of Marlborough Sparkling Sauvignon Blanc from our antipodean friends all ready to share with Mrs NJ and a couple of neighbours. There's plenty of New World bubbly to be had at sensible prices. There's some decent English sparkling now as well, but they will have to bring the price down to compete.

I've got a string of coloured garden lights I'm putting up. Twenty forty watt bulbs of the incandescent variety. None of this "lumens" nonsense. They don't like it up 'em!
'As for the RoI, they can make their own decisions re checks & borders.'

Then why haven't they? You can't paint the EU as a tyrannical unbending behemoth of an organisation and then say they'll let a member state decide how borders with non EU countries will work.
Question Author
for too long the Irish Border issue has been weaponised by the VBQC, not any more. If the EUSSR want one they'll have to force (good luck with that!) the ROI to build one on their side. As far as the UK goes it's never been an issue beyond the need for some to manufacture an issue.
'I've got a string of coloured garden lights'

Low energy, I hope!
Whatta time to give up booze. :-(
Question Author
fair enough judge but it's an English invention anyway!
It's not an 'invention' at all. It was a mistake.
