Proof that you can be rewarded for being an absolute bell end.

Also proof that the honours system is outdated and should be discontinued.

some of the honours have gone to very deserving people, those who do charitable good works, i think they should be recognised and many of them have been.
As is the house of Lords IMO

And if the honours system focused on them, instead of honouring those who have done nothing for the country other than make themselves and their cohorts richer, nobody would have any problem with them.
There should not be any so called honours.
If you look at the list, most went to people who just went to work, the business recipients.
And IDS? A knighthood? For what? Designing Universal Credit?
If the country wants to honour them, they should be at the back of the queue, behind every serving military person, doctor, nurse, policeman, add your own to the list.
It is truly a farce.
Lord Corbyn of Islington has a certain ring to it.

As does Sir Theland of Answerbank.
please don't that scrawny old goat a Lord. Islington should get it's act together...

At least Farage didn't get anything. Small mercies.
As you say, there are bell-ends and bell-ends.

He was the leader of the opposition of a while.
I can’t really get too worked up about it.

It always puzzles me why sports stars get honours whilst they're still playing. Okay if they make a significant contribution to charity or another area. But shouldn't their status and influence be recognised once they retire?

I agree completely. It seems really bizarre to have knighted sportspeople like Mo Farah or Andy Murray still competing.
I've always liked the man; he was a former Conservative Party leader & is a distinguished parliamentarian as such, it is an honour he well deserves.

I couldn't disagree more, but our opinions are dictated by our political leanings, so all's fair.

For the record, there's no way on Earth I'd agree with Corbyn potentially getting a gong either (not that I think he'd ever accept one)
Discontinue honours, the Lords.....what next ? Keep looking/going at unworthiness and the whole of the UK's institutions/traditions, etc. would end up discontinued.

Now, that......... (sound of hand slapped over mouth)
and not forgetting tokenism...

why on earth has a winner of a cookery show been awarded ?...
it's an outrage that women should get more recognition than men. The work of Theresa May, obviously.
// Proof that you can be rewarded for being an absolute bell end.//
quite agree
along with the other dud - Allison Saunders

there is also a chief constable honoured for being a useless *** and the head of the British Transport Police for running away from something

I worked with duds whose only goal was to finish a shift or watch completely 'clean' - giving a service didnt enter into it
PP //giving a service didnt enter into it//
