I bought a black kitchen bin from a well-known store. Not sure I can say the name but it starts with A and ends in s.I then decided I would like another one for recycled bottles and tins the same as the one I already have but in a different colour. Having looked on their website there was a picture of a white one so I decided I would buy that, but when I went to order it, there wasn't a choice to choose white so I wrote on their question and answer section. This is exactly what I wrote.

Does this bin come in white?

It shows this bin in black and also in white, but there is nowhere to make the choice which colour you want.

Then this morning I received an email from them highlighted in red telling me they could not publish my question as it didn't come within their guidelines! WHAT!
I phoned them to ask for an explanation and was told it's because I said black and white. If I had said black and green it would have been published and I would have received an answer.
Do you think the world is going mad when you cannot ask a simple question like this?
How can this be racist?

ARGOS?

no

I wasn't sure if it is allowed on here to mentioned stores by their name in case I get accused of advertising, but yes it's what Bobbi said. :-)
if Argos was paying you to advertise them they'd want something a bit more complimentary!
Question Author
I don't think I would have minded so much only for the fact it came highlighted in red with warning also in red. I honestly wondered what on earth I'd said.
I think you are making the mistake (which many of us are making) that your email was generated by a sentient being.

This is from another part of their email. I wonder how I could have worded it differently.
, we encourage you to resubmit your question on Curver 40 Litre Pedal Bin - Black keeping it informative, product specific and not including:

Reference to stock, product availability or returns
Prices, offers or links: which are subject to change
Personal information: protect your identity
Mentions of other companies or websites
Other inappropriate or unhelpful content
Please view our guidelines on question submission for further clarification.
I would complain - you've surely had a rogue responder. Argos wouldn't say this to you and certainly not highlighted in red.. I've just looked up bins on their website and there are lots of answered questions about black bins and red bins and white bins etc etc.
Prudie’s right, I’d contact them, they’ve obviously got a giant ‘snowflake’ working in that department
Question Author
Prudie, it's ok to mention other colours but not black and white.
Question Author
If I can find out their head office address I think I will write to tell them how pathetic they are.
It can't possibly be racist, of course. It's them. I might threaten to contact a newspaper - that might bring them to their senses.
for years our general bin has been the black bin, however, the council call it grey, fairy nuff. (each to their own and all that)

Forward the email to customer services as an attachment, asking why they are employing delicate people who cannot be civil to their customers.

Alternatively, perhaps they were wondering if you wanted a bin in zebra stripes? :-)
(sorry x)

Question Author
Thanks for that Bobbi. I did see that address but it says Argos Direct and they are no longer trading so don't know if that's still a valid address.I might phone them again tomorrow to ask them for head office. I was expecting it to be in London.x
