Ignorance and mockery from the usual quarters I see. (And since I started writing this post a believer in moral relativism: all cuktures and practices are qual.) Another normal crazy day on AB then. Aceh province is a part of "moderate" Indonesia which has adopted Sharia and its penal code the hadood. Whippings, stonings and amputations are not extreme,...

…...would a False Dan be Desperate, or Dare-ing?
Why, for example, presume that the hated BBC would turn a blind eye to such barbaric practices?
Here is a report, for example, from 2017

Ichkeria, I think the point is that whilst all hell breaks loose over everything Trump does or says, incidents like this receive little condemnation.
Well that’s what I mean really: the majority of these “whatabout” threads are destined very quickly to descend into pointless slanging and slagging.
Psychologically interesting tho they may be
I think also, as far as Trump is concerned, the hoo-hah his tweeting etc causes is surely what he wants.
A handy diversion perhaps - given the root cause of these horrendous practices.
We shouldn’t be talking about Trump - but there you go...

Maybe it was this one he had

I agree Naomi Trump has nothing to do with this and I don’t agree we should turn a blind eye as it happens to be the law of the land
// But what gives *us* (whoever we are) the right to look down on them or, even worse, to tell them that they're wrong and how great it would be if they could just be a bit more civilised - like us. //

If we believe it's barbaric and uncivilised (which it is), then we have every right to say so.

/// I don't see any posts from any 'optimists' - and for the record, taking an exasperated position and being vexed because you don't think anyone understands the issues as much as you do, comes over as being superior and pompous, and it doesn't encourage rational discussion. ///

/// We don't need a superior 'Islam expert' here on the AB - that position has been filled. ///

You just can't help yourself can you, stop your continues baiting, we all know that you are referring to Naomi.
It is you alone that is always enticing bickering, with your superior and pompous attitude.
"A 19-year-old boy was whipped with a rattan cane for having sex with a minor "

Don't have sex with minors.
AOG - We are back on the thread now - side-lining posts like this are what derail discussions.

I said yesterday that we caused a thread to be closed by quarrelling, I am not willing to lose this one in the same way.

I am therefore going to ignore off-thread nitpicking posts like this one.
If it was good enough for Mohammed, surely it's good enough for his followers, Lily.
Naomi - // We shouldn’t be talking about Trump - but there you go... //

I don't believe we are.

As I pointed out yesterday, I believe that comparing one bad thing with another bad thing does not mitigate the original bad thing in any way - it is blowing smoke and does not add to a debate about this serious issue.

I am not sure what point you are making.

There is no comparison between the UK at the time when Capital Punishment was the law of the land, and the populace understood the role of the national executioner, a government employee, and a country with twelfth century backwards barbaric lawlessness where bigots can and do appoint themselves as arbiters of law, and abuse and murder people at will.

Well you know the solution don't you? Stop your quarrelling, or is it perfectly alright for you, but not for others.

/// I am therefore going to ignore off-thread nitpicking posts like this one. ///

Good, I can then expect you as 'a man of your word' to ignore this one.
Wow, a slip of the veil there.

The UK at the time!!!!!

Ah so you admit that our country might have now changed, since we have imported peoples from twelfth century backwards barbaric lawless countries.
