Does it really matter who runs the BTB party? I assume the first act of the new leader will be to rename the party to something that reflects it's core ideology?

I think she's ghastly.
I voted for Jo Swinson.

She’ll win :-)

Which will leave Labour as the only major party yet to choose a female as leader.
Even Change UK or whatever have managed that.
Even the Brexit Party fgs
Labour should rename itself the Back to the 1970s Party. The Tories should be the Back to the 1950s Party, since they seem to be conserving absolutely nothing.
I genuinely don’t want to deflect attention from the Lib Dems but that’s a good point jno.
The Conservatives really do seem to have stopped wanting to conserve
The Lib Dems are currently more or less equal with the Tories, Labour and Brexit Party in a four-horse race at the top. So yes, it very much *does* matter.
"The Conservatives really do seem to have stopped wanting to conserve"

They've always been 'jam tomorrow'.
Under May the Tories became the liberal Party.

"The Lib Dems are currently more or less equal with the Tories, Labour and Brexit Party in a four-horse race at the top."

And back to reality ....
The Conservatives seem to want to destroy everything; the UK, the economy included if necessary, for the sake of Brexit.
Most odd.

jim: "The Lib Dems are currently more or less equal with the Tories, Labour and Brexit Party in a four-horse race at the top." - lay of the steam tugs jim! The non dems have set their stall out as the unequivocal party for the remoaners, and for them that's good, they'll no doubt pick up a lot of seats maybe even get to their 2010 high, but they'll not get anywhere near Tory/Labour. Even with both having their own style of meltdown at the moment.
The definition “liberal” I reckon is largely meaningless in terms of UK politics especially?
Does it mean progressive and reforming?
Does it mean highlighting individual freedoms?
It’s an oddity because those are things espoused by many who nonetheless use the term “liberal” as a term of abuse for people they don’t agree with. Sort of like “fascist” used to be.
If the Tories went “liberal” under Theresa May then I think you’ll find Boris Johnson is in many ways far more “liberal” than she is
Well, we'll see. Admittedly the last two elections (local and EU) have been something of a protest vote against how Brexit was handled, but nevertheless the LibDems did stupendously well in both. Who's to say what happens in a General Election? Might depend on when it's held, too. There's been some talk about a snap election, for example, which might see large boosts for pro-Brexit and pro-Remain parties. Plus there's the challenge of converting popular support into actual seats.

But in either case the Lib Dems are on the way back up, and so their leader very much does matter.

ich, as a party member are you not a little embarrassed by their "ignore democracy" - B0wl0cks to brexit, etc stance?
Can’t you find another record Tora
Or go away and study the real meaning of “sour grapes” or something :-)
Question Author
can you answer the legitimate question.
Sorry: yes it does matter who leads the Libdems for the reason Jim gives
Question Author
nice, now my question at 13:18
That is not, in my opinion, a legitimate question. It’s a rhetorical question where you’ve simply stated an opinion in the form of a query.
I think, you will be unsurprised to learn, that the Liberal Democrats are entirely democratic.
You are entitled to think differently.
Question Author
your party has declared that it wants to ignore the result of the referendum. Surely it's legitimate to ask how you feel about that.
Tora, it was legitimate of me to ask you how the EU subjugate us. You appear to have chosen not to answer that though.
