I think he's right.
Go for a meal with your child(ren) go to a child-friendly pub.
I don't think his rules are over the top having seen a child suffer a very nasty accident running around and colliding with the edge of a bench, head-first.

I'd have taken my children there, would you?

saucepans should not be running round the battle cruiser, end of.
Never been in a pub for 40+ years, but when i did, children under 18years old were not allowed in. I suppose now that if the pub is serving food and a "play area" is available it is a free for all.
Perfectly reasonable rules that simply list the things any and every responsible parent should be doing anyway, and agree with. There are numerous pubs around; if someone has kids that run riot and they wish to inflict them on other drinkers & diners, I'm sure they can find a lax publican somewhere that can't be bothered to speak to such customers, and so allows it in their pub by default.
i'd like a pub within walking distance of my house that bans kids, jukeboxes, televisions and hot food, unfortunately there isn't one

The landlord is probably aiming his "rules" at the minority of families who bring their children into a pub and them let them off their leashes while they enjoy a meal and/or pint. In my experience the majority of people behave in a reasonable way (and i realise children can be noisy) and show a lot of consideration to others.
Taking children to a pub or restaurant can be a treat and also teach them social skills early in life.
Unfortunately, like more and more things in modern life, the noisy minority seem to cause the majority of problems.
Stalker? Get over yourself!
I think it’s fine. I would never let my son run around in a pub or restaurant. We often got compliments from other diners on his good manners.
I think it's reasonable. If I was one of the people that didn't, I wouldn't waste time whinging about it, I'd just go elsewhere.
I think he's done the best he can without actually banning kids and I am in full and total agreement with him. If we ever go to a pub where kids are running round screaming and being a general nuisance, we just never go again. Red Lion, Penketh - take note !!
If there is a designated child playsafe area, fair enough. Otherwise sit at the table and eat your vegetables quietly.
itsnotfar from me and ive been there loads of times, its a nice pub.

you cant have children running around a pub where hot food is being served or people are carrying drinks.
Was having a meal couple of weeks ago in a well known pub chain. Lots of families and every table had well behaved children. Then it arrived, the family exactly as the landlord describes, just one little boy, about 3 years old who managed, all by himself, to spoil things for everyone else. Ran around, pinched toys from other kids at their table, sat with other families, who quite clearly weren't keen, came up to me at snotty nose level with my food and reached out for my drink. All the while his mother sat there saying things like "oh look, he likes those people, he's so friendly"
