"I want to sit on the bus next to a white person because that is my personal preference"

Racist as ***

Racism is when you think that another race is inferior to yours.
"And in my opinion you need to let other people have an opinion without being branded shallow or racist.
"

That is fine, as long as the opinion isn't shallow or racist.
Racism consists of much more than that.
I'm just pleased to get a seat on the bus.
"Byrdes of on kynde and color flok and flye allwayes together."

William Turner.
The Rescuing of Romish Fox 1545
spath^^^^^that's as maybe but thinking that your race is superior is the beginning of racism.
Mamy i would always offer my buss seat especially for you.
Andres, i disagree... the beginning of racism is differentiating society due to colour or race. It then goes on to people openly sharing their dislike regarding features of the opposite colour or race ,this could be physical or cultural. It then goes on to acting on that dislike. It then progresses to people collectively having and acting on these dislikes.

But it all starts from saying that man is black and that man is white or that man is 100% English the other is half Italian.. instead of just saying oh, two people over there.
is it racist to prepare and react to the known traits of certain races?
What are you on about?
spath^^^Look it up in the dictionary. I am merely going by their definition.
"a person who shows or feels discrimination or prejudice against people of other races, or who believes that a particular race is superior to another."

being prejudice is racist.
//I'm not sure if you knew, but opinions, personal preferences and thoughts can be racist.//

Yes I do know. But the example you cited of potential racism (i.e. a person's preference in a partner) is simply crass.
OK. I disagree. But, OK.

I don't think it was crass in the slightest.
Spath said the other day that 2 black men asked him the time. He reckoned if he got his phone out to tell them, they would have mugged him for it.
Probably true but that's got to be a bit racist, hasn't it?
No. the year previously the same happened to me with 3 white men. They actually did try to steal my phone. The even occurred in the same area.
It wasn't their colour, it was what they ask'd. They both had phones, why would they need the time?

Even sitting next to an Asian person who is carrying a rucksack?

No I am not being racist perhaps a little paranoid maybe but lessons are learned due entirely to the present climate.

Just the same as most would not choose to walk alone in some areas of some cities.
Choosing not to walk alone is a fear not created by any specific race or colour.

Being scared of sitting next to Asians with rucksacks is.

I am afraid to say, AOG... you are racist. Yes this may be due to fear. But even still... I'm surprised you've managed to get yourself so conditioned.
