"lucky enough to be on benefits"....I class myself fortunate enough to have my own money to pay my own way and NOT to require benefits.

Think it's bang out of order. I think you should get a free TV license the same time you get a free buss pass.
With 52% in favour it sounds very similar to another close vote...

Cue protests!
I agree it should not be free, its a bit like the free heating allowance - it should go to the needy pensioners not the ones that can afford to heat their homes and watch tv without topping up.
I think it's unfair to force those who have earned the ability to pay, to pay, and those who obviously haven't, to not pay. That's not fair and equal.

That's not fair at all.
Whoever said life was fair?
Best of luck to the Beeb in getting them all to cough up the required amount...
I feel swizzed - I will be 75 in July 2020 and they're stopping it in June 2020.
"Whoever said life was fair?"

Well it sends a bad message to the population. Make sure you're incompetent and we'll let you live for free. If you dare spend any effort in getting your own money and benefiting yourself, then we'll make your life as hard as possible.
so when i tell them to get stuffed i am not paying, will they put an 82 year old in prison?
No, you can't be arrested for not paying your TV licence.
You will be fined though, refusing to pay this fine can result in prison.
Abolish the license fee for everyone no matter what age.
What I would object to ia having to pay the BBC in order to watch the commercial stations.
isn't the dratted thing also supposed to cover their radio output?

Maybe it should be subscription only and have adverts on the radio to make them self-funding.
"What I would object to ia having to pay the BBC in order to watch the commercial stations."

I agree. Why am i paying monthly to watch ITV adverts?

The TV license should apply to the BBC and only the BBC. It's silly that it doesn't.
Issue with it going private is the bias that it will start to pump out. If the TV license overs TV then it's not gov owned or funded.
It is still free for the over 75's who are in receipt of Pension Credits (whatever they are).
Doesn't bother me.

Actually my headline is not reading how I meant it to read. Just to clarify in case you haven't read the link, if you get Pension Credit you still get a Free TV Licence but the rest of the over 75's have to pay.

Is there a way I can watch some TV on say iPlayer after it has gone out live, on my laptop perhaps? Get rid of my TV?

No, to watch any Iplayer, you need a TV license. Be this ITV or BBC.
It'll be Bus Passes next.!!!
