Anyone else notice he played an orchestral version of Bittersweet Symphony, instead of The Last Time by The Rolling Stones which he announced before and after the record played? He didn’t even notice, but presumably someone did. I like Tony and this show, but he does make a lot of mistakes in his old age

you mean this?

it's not bittersweet symphony, although that's what it became (and was the reason jagger/Richard until recently collected royalties for the verve interpretation)

That’s it. Blimey that is remarkably similar to Bittersweet Symphony, and it sounds nothing like The Last Time
He did explain all that - then afterwards joked that he wouldn't be playing it again!

Can't understand why this programme is only on for an hour - far better than Cox, Wiley et al. Only Tony and Rylan that I listen to (and for very different reasons!)
perhaps this time it was you who made a mistake in your old age shhhh?
If the wrong track got played on Sounds of the Sixties, it wouldn't be Tony Blackburn's fault anyway. Unlike most commercial radio studios, the BBC's studios aren't 'self-drive', either at national or local level (even though there's no reason why they can't operate that way).

The guy responsible for checking that the correct disc is on the turntable, or that the correct MP3 file is lined up, is Richard Power, who produces the show.

If an incorrect track ever gets played on BBC radio it results in some additional paperwork for someone, as the 'PAB' ('programme as broadcast') document then has to be amended.
Tony Blackburn can do no wrong, ever, he is a legend.
Another of those rare moments of accord, Mr Hughes. :-)

Lankeela, Sounds Of The 60s is a TWO-hour show. It should be on at 8am instead of 6am though. I bet the number of listeners drops dramatically when Dermot O’Dreary’s show starts at 8....especially as he’s rarely hosting it himself
Tony Blackburn can do no right.
