Just noticed a picture of the RAF Regiment Queen's Colour Squadron giving the usual Guard of Honour ceremony for the President of the United States.
I notice the nearest airman in the photo has,it appears, a Lance Corporal chevron. Is this a recent addition to the ranks of the Royal Air Force. I don't recall that rank years ago. It started LAC, SAC and then corporal. Not even the 'rock apes' (service slang for the RAF Regiment) used that rank.
How long has this rank been adopted. Any one know please?.

Thank you both very much. Relatively new and a RAF Regiment rank only. No wonder it was unknown to me.
