/// The owners of the blimp were given permission by the Greater London Authority, headed by Mr Khan, to fly the blimp over London during the state visit. ///

/// Organisers plan to fly the blimp - which depicts Mr Trump wearing a nappy and clutching a mobile phone - over Parliament Square on Tuesday, the second day of the state visit. ///

/// They must now await final approval from the Metropolitan Police, who are expected to give their decision on Monday. ///

ich, surely the office of the President of the United States should be accorded some respect no matter whoever is the incumbent.
I imagine all the protesters will be non-orange, at least. Still, unless they make it clear that colour is an issue, or unless Trump says it is, it's surely not for third parties to proclaim it a racial matter?
Ah, one of your famous ‘what if’ scenarios.

Far right protests are sometimes banned because they have the potential to stir up Racial hatred. Let’s stick to the fact that this is a white(ish) President, eh and not muddy the waters with unnecessary and superfluous hypothetical scenarios.

/// Yes but these protesters won’t go out and injure anyone who looks like trump unlike the far right protesters who want people to go and hurt anyone who isn’t white ///

What rubbish you enter, I don't know which Far-Right parties you are referring to, but certain ones who are given this title protest against the increasing rise of Islam in the UK, and don't go out to physically hurt anyone, the hurting is generally carried out by the Far-Left opposing groups.
I have the utmost respect for the desk, phones, chairs and all other items within the office.
dannyk, usually the only reason for banning protests is the prospect of affray or stirring up hatred; but I think aog is being entirely fanciful in imagining that flying a cartoon blimp will do any of this. Trump may anticipate respect from the Queen and I'm sure he'll get it; but it would be a bad precedent if British people were to be cleared from the streets because they disagreed.
There is a difference between disagreeing with something and insulting the leader of our foremost ally.
Like I said already, Trump will accorded the ultimate respect: it’s a state visit remember? :-)
I don’t have a problem with him coming but there has to be accommodation for people to protest. Peacefully.
So these protests should not be banned. And I don’t think there is any suggestion generally that they should is there?
Stopping people flying drones over Heathrow, demos plainly intended to raise hatred to one or other section of the community with threats of violence from counter demonstrators - that is a different matter.
I don't think there is, dannyk. Protesters should be allowed to say why they protest, whether it's insulting or not.

Americans are.
Ich...there are protestations and there are protestations........flying a blimp over the capital is a step too far....in my opinion.
It is insulting and discourteous.....but hey, it is going to happen so there is little more to say.
