London has a history of immigration coming into the East End as a gateway to a better life. Huguenots, Jews, Irish, Bangladeshis. That is the nature of the place. Same as New York. When was it every really English?

I visit central London quite a lot and worked there for almost all my working life. I enjoy going abroad because wherever I go I hear more English spoken than I do when walking down Oxford Street or Charing Cross Road.

what does he mean, "any more"? London remains in England, but it's been a lure for immigrants since the Romans arrived. He's living in a Fawlty-style dream world where everyone's always been white and spoken his language, except for a few Cockneys.

I live in London and I hardly ever go down Oxford st. Probably once a year. You can`t really say that Oxford St represents London.
