/// Mr Thompson expressed his 'increasing concern' over the rhetoric of the demonstrations, and said a number of criminal offences had been committed outside the school since Sunday night. ///

/// The force received reports at 9.30pm on Sunday of assault and criminal damage on Dennis Road in Moseley, as well as reports of malicious communications received by the school on Thursday. ///

"Birmingham's total Muslim population of 140,033"

Oh, and how many of those are protesting outside this school? Or actively protesting LGBT issues?

/// A nice change to see you sticking up for the LGBT community, AOG. ///

I am in support for schools being free to teach on legitimate British subjects.

/// I can't help but notice though that these threads are largely ignored by the usual protectors of the LGBT community. ///

Yes it must be hard for them, to take sides in support of the Muslim community or their support for the LGBT community.

Obviously only those who are effected ie those who send their children to that school.

Perhaps they should conduct a Birmingham poll, I think then your number of 140,033 Birmingham Muslims would prove that the vast majority of them would be against such teachings.
//Yes it must be hard for them, to take sides in support of the Muslim community or their support for the LGBT community.//

It has been a dilemma for such people for years. Long before LGBT became fashionable they were torn by their support for gay rights and their enthusiasm for Islamic beliefs. I can't begin to imagine the agony they must suffer when dealing dealing with such a dichotomy.

Yeah but they're NOT protesting, or making a racket. My point is going far over your head, i'll leave it to maybe land.
"Pupils at a school that has faced protests over teaching LGBT lessons have written to campaigners saying 'don't disturb us when we are trying to learn'."

Right and I wonder how many teachers instigated that then.

I'm with the protesters. Too young and someone has to stop the march of the Liberal elite.

You are just being silly now, for example the vast majority of the EU referendum voted to come out, but only a fool would expect all of them to protest outside The Houses of Parliament over the treatment they have received.

Once again I ask for proof.
AOg if I had the patience to scroll through your endless hate fill posts I would - perhaps someone else might do the honours
I think the point is, spathi, that there is a significant number (it doesn't matter how many or what percentage, etc.) of parents demonstrating at this school (and others) against its teaching. That teaching has been endorsed by Parliament and the vast majority of the country accepts it. Even if they didn't, they're stuck with it because they can't pick and choose what their children will be taught in State schools.

The objections of the protesters are based simply on religion; on teachings which are from the Middle Ages and which have no place in 21st Century UK. If any other group had been demonstrating against teaching LGBT issues in schools they would be - quite rightly - castigated. This group is not and the reason is that special allowances are being made for them because somebody from 1,400 years ago espoused that the practices being taught are unacceptable. It's true that the ancient teachings of some other religions do likewise, but their adherents have managed to move on. This group has not and expects special exemptions to be made for them.
My personal opinion on education is that there should be a national curriculem whereby religion is taught as a subject and all pupils are obliged to learn about all religions equally. I also think that gay and bi relationships should be taught as ' normal' (because they are). This should be established as mandatory with no deviation allowed to accommodate parents beliefs. If people don't like it they can educate their children themselves. I would also like to see an end to faith schools across the board. If parents who are demonstrating (which is their right) break the law and cross over into territory where they feel assault and threats are okay then they should be arrested and made an example of.
I think children should be taught what we know to be true, both with LGBT and with religion. Personal (including religious) beliefs are just that- personal.

The difference is, one group is acting on it, one group is getting on with it.

The majority of Muslims in the UK are getting on with it, this small minority is protesting. I'm unsure how to make my point much clearer.

AFAIK that is how it is.
It's called R.E under the category "Humanities"
There were some religious people in my primary school. When we did prayer and hymns (apparently normal in state schools for them to force you to sing christian hymns) these people simply left the room upon instruction.
RE is compulsory up to 16 years old now, which seems excessive.
In theory it is but if it really was mandatory then you'd not have a mob at the school gates protesting that they don't like LGBT rights being taught in the school. My post covered religion and the teaching of sexuality generally obviously.

I'm with the protesters.

How much of the protesters rhetoric have you listened to?
If you believe it is just aged related then I would think not much.
