Yes. Plain and simple in my opinion.
Yes, it should be illegal.
Surely "netting " is only a temporary feature and it seems clear to me that there are plenty of other trees that the birds can nest in......the UK not being short of trees.
I just cannot believe this. I first became aware of it when ladybirder pointed it out on here and asked us to sign a petition. The picture of those trees literally breaks my heart - what the bloody hell is wrong with people?!! It's the birds planet as well and they have a right to live the way they are supposed too. I hope to God it becomes illegal.
Definitely!

sqad, it's done so they can later cut the trees down, which they cannot do if birds are nesting. Disgusting practice.
TTT...I know.
the same as hereIam, have never seen them round me and knew nothing until LB's post. It's absolutely disgraceful and should be completely banned. This has no social value at all it's just to enable building of expensive houses without hassle.
Yes, it should be made illegal - quickly.

Thanks all, I have not seen any round my way but the pictures just look so sad to me, if they did it where I am I'd be out cutting the nets off soon as I can.
Yes, it's appalling & should be illegal.
Wicked tactics used by the developers. Wait until they get their hands on the green belt land that they so greedily covet. Being dressed up as an opportunity to supply "affordable" houses of 1Million households for the under 40s. They propose to use up green belt land near to cities,......you know the places that desperately need it, but once the legislation is slackened we all know where they will be building don't we. How about developing the vacant properties that lie unused in all our cities first. The greedy gits would throw a net over the whole countryside if we let them get away with it.
Well , lets stop the population growth. Until we do the developers have to build 300,00 homes a year so more and more practices like this will occur.

Netting can and is used responsibly though. There are some developers that work with the Eco bunch and will plant new trees/habitats in excess of what they destroy. So no, dont ban it but control it.
Using net to protect crops is ok. Using net to be a dick ought not be allowed.
But what they destroy ymb are mature, well developed trees which are perfect for birds to nest in and insects to thrive in. What they replace them with are young saplings that will take years to mature and are no good to birds at all. This planet does not just belong to us to destroy at will. Destroying natural habitats to suit ourselves is disgusting imo !
^Wow, you must be one of those old fashioned people who lives in a cave and forages for food. (along with most people on this thread)

Wouldn't you feel guilty when the tree gets bulldozed with all them baby birds in it?
Birds don't just nest in trees.
^??
I had them nesting in my house.
That's a very valuable contribution to the thread, ummmm. Thank-you.
