Ms Abbot did not agree with this but with great fanfare this new initiative was trotted out to reduce moped crime. Already there have been positive results with about 50% reduction.
No wonder Police Officers are leaving their respective forces in droves. The morale is already rock bottom.

Retro, this was a bit different to the practice of nudging a moped from the rear.Apparently in this case a police car was driven across the path of the moped.
more TROB cobras
TTT, rubbish, the moped driver could have been killed, this was not the manoeuvre approved by his force.
Question Author
Very easy ,Danny if following, but not practical if in front of the bandit vehicle.
Danny, one less lowlife thieving scum then.
Retro, can't tell from the report but did the police car overtake the moped before cutting across its path?
Retro, another point is that the nudging manoeuvre was only applied to police motorcycles.
Any idea why the moped was on the pavement? Trying to outrun the squad car perhaps...….on the pavement? I thought the cyclists on the pavement were bad enough. Looks more like the moped ran into plod than being "knocked" down.
Togo, the police car was driven across the path of the moped, so the moped would have run into it.
//the police car was driven across the path of the moped,//

I should think so too. Riding a moped on the pavement. A parent with a pram or youngster, or a wheel chair user would have been in mortal danger from a, no doubt, speeding moped.
togo, TROB care more about low life criminal scum than the law abiding majority.
TTT, you do talk some rubbish
//However, the case was investigated by the Independent Office for Police Conduct - one of three examined by the body.

The IOPC recommended gross misconduct proceedings against the officer - his case is being heard on Tuesday.//

They may be the ones you should take to task, if as you say the Officer followed the rules by the book.
Lynne, from the report it would appear that he could possibly have 'nudged' the rider off his moped earlier as this was pursuit.
It says 'suspected' thief, do we know if he was or not ?
Danny, I am not arguing about anything in the article - simply pointing those aggrieved in the right direction.

The hard stops were demonstrated when they were first launched and you are correct they were from the rear.
Looks to me like Police parked on the pavement and Mopedman drove into them....
Can you be fired for parking on the pavement?
danny, you've spent this whole thread hand wringing because plod knocked some pond life off a moped me old china.
TTT I repeat you talk a lot of rubbish.I am not hand wringing. If the officer had nudged him off the moped whilst in pursuit he would not be facing an investigation.

Just take the Scum down any way that's possible!
