Strange Bird Sound

Can anyone identify a bird that sounds like a duck. For the last two night we have heard a bird calling that sounds like a duck. It is in a tree but we cannot see it. We do have owls and one could be replying. We are in southern Portugal . We also have a nightjar but it’s nest is the other side of the garden

Not that one. Definitely sounds like a single quack

Could it be a Duck do you think?

We are right on the seafront and we have Ducks roost on our ridge tiles quite often.

No ducks here. We are in the country outside Albufeira.
Never see ducks like we do in UK. Roost in a large carob tree. Only heard it the last two nights. An owl seems to answer.
