Come on....even the most achingly right-on amongst us on AB, and there's loads, must find this LOL. I more than LOL'd, I bloody roared with laughter. He was wearing an Ann Summers Mrs Clause outfit fer christ's sake.

Thanks for that Prudie, I genuinely have never come across it. What I take from those links though is that this is these two women's personal hang ups about terminology and that they have stereotyped the word 'lady' in their own head as being something weak and feeble, slightly archaic and very much not go getting and with any business nous.
I on the other hand ( in my head) view the term as strong, assertive and very definitely having leadership qualities, which brings up an interesting point. Whilst we can decide as a society, a block if you like, if something is roughly palatable to us or not, we'll never eradicate our own personal biases because they think 'ladies' are weak, I think they're strong and I now have these two women formed firmly in my head as overly politically correct folks, struggling to find something to be offended over and slightly hard of thinking.
And that really is the crux of everything, we all have our own hang ups and opinions :) x

The exact same thing i thought calico. Sounds like a them issue with how they're spoke to, not a me issue with the word i say.

It's interesting Prudie picks up on the term Lady though, as if i should use something else because it offends people. It's similar to calling a transwoman He instead of the preferred She.

No where on the thread has anyone implied that should be the case, and continuously throughout the thread i've separated gender from biological sex.

I have lots of Muslim friends VE, along with lots of Jewish ones, lots of Christian ones, Pagan ones, Sikh ones, Hindu, Agnostic, Atheist etc - you get the idea. I dunno what any of think about this one particular thing, I don't grill them on a daily basis about current affairs, but I'm reasonably comfortable in my own mind that they would all be quite down with it, and be more respectful to her than that nurse and a lot of people on this thread have been.
If they weren't they wouldn't be my friends. I do have very high standards of behaviour for people I choose to be close to, you lie with dogs, you rise with fleas.

^^^I put ridiculous because that is exactly what they looked like. Burly six foot farmer dressed in a frilly blouse, high heels, massive hands and still sporting a moustache ??? What other word would you use. Of course we never said to the patient 'you look ridiculous' . As to knowing what happened after they transitioned etc. We used to have Day Care sessions , home visits, that carried on for many months after discharge. Unlike today where patients are thrown out as soon as possible.
Furthermore I will repeat-----To try to put the exclamation down was ridiculous.How does anyone know how to spell it

Because it makes some people suicidal? They feel they can't live with their body. You've no idea how people feel unhappy in their skin, so if they can change it, they will.

I knew what you meant, andres. I was suggesting that if men felt free to dress how they liked in public without getting looks and comments (not from you), then we would be used to it and wouldn't give it a second glance.
