A council spokesperson said a "basic error" was to blame and apologised for any offence caused.

The authority said it would be raising the issue with staff and the company responsible.

Sheffield City Council said: "While we're at it, we would like to congratulate Wales on their fantastic victory in the Six Nations at the weekend and wish everyone a Happy St Patrick's Day, too."
Good recovery with the warm apology Sheffield Council *Chortlesplutters*
"While we're at it, we would like to congratulate Wales on their fantastic victory in the Six Nations at the weekend and wish everyone a Happy St Patrick's Day, too.""

Good save.
Lol!!
Lol :-)
As a former employee of Sheffield City Council, I'm reminded of two memos displayed on the staffroom noticeboard in our school. They were both issued on the same date and both signed by the Chief Education Officer:

Memo 1 (from the person responsible for fuel economy): "In order to save on heating costs, where any room in a school is fitted with curtains they must be drawn closed every night"

Memo 2 (from the person responsible for fire safety): "In order that any outbreak of fire can be identified as quickly as possible, where any room in a school is fitted with curtains they must be left open every night"

:-)
Oh dear oh dear, like your story too Buenchico.
I like the part "...raising the issue with staff...".
The memos Buenchico mentioned reminded me of one where I used to work. It was sent by a director and stated " all quotations, whether verbally or written must be shown to me first".

they also probably commented how good their whisky was too
At least it was’nt A PLO flag known tb displayed by left wing borough councils. :-(
I wonder what flag they were thinking of flying?
The St Patrick’s cross?
The flying of flags is a contentious issue especially where Ireland is concerned
I'm sure the person who hoisted it up is showing penants
retro: "At least it was’nt A PLO flag known tb displayed by left wing borough councils. :-( " - that'd be fine, the one that would cause the most ructions would be an England flag!
// The authority said it would be raising the issue with the company responsible. //

So the Council pay an outside contractor to raise flags at the town hall. Presumably to cut council staff. Utter madness.
Of course, St. Patrick was Welsh.
Ah a proselytizing immigrant eh ?

According to Wikipedia the birthplace is uncertain, with England, Scotland, and Wales all making a claim.
Indeed St David is the only “native” patron saint of the British Isles.
