Committed a crime on Saturday and jailed on Monday.

/// His defence asked for community service or a suspended prison sentence but magistrates ruled that a "message had to be sent out to fans" ///

It's a pity that the same message can't be sent out to some of the knife wielding gangs on our city's streets.

I think this was a pretty straightforward case though, AOG- apprehended at the time, lots of video evidence, unprovoked, etc
I agree and hope this sentence sends out a strong message to would-be fans who think it is acceptable to act in similar fashion. It is happening more and more whether it is one individual or a small group such as the Pussy Riot protestors who disrupted the World Cup Final.

I recall Monica Seles being stabbed on court in the early 90's and I dare say there are other examples of assault.

As to knife crime, well,'not guilty' pleas ensure a more lengthy process of course.
Surprised they tied up a cell for 14 weeks though. But I guess he'll be out long before that anyway.
OG,I thought the same but anything seen to be on the lenient side may not act as much of a deterrent to others.

Of course, the reality is,especially in derby matches, that we are likely to see it happening time and time again....
"but anything seen to be on the lenient side may not act as much of a deterrent to others. "

Pity they dont use that thinking on knife crime sentences.
//I think this was a pretty straightforward case though, AOG- apprehended at the time, lots of video evidence, unprovoked, etc//

I think that criteria could be used against murderers and rapists. A safe conviction and hang them.
Were your really a policeman?
Very straightforward case. He could of accidentally killed the player.

Yes it seems he was really a policeman, just with some retro ideologies ;)
//Were your really a policeman?//
Yes I was. Strangely enough it was police officers who arrested murderers not so many years ago and handed them over ultimately to one Mr Pierrepoint.
Are you really a teacher? If so that would explain enough.
Factor Fiction and Spath
How would you like the responsibility to allow this man to commit murder and rape so many times having been given life sentences.
People with your warped sensibilities are the very type of liberal do gooders who let this happn. Sleep well.

The thread is about commiting a crime on a Saturday and jailing on a Monday.
So are you seriously suggesting a murder or a rape on a Friday should result in a hanging two days later. How many murders and rapes cases were so clear cut that they were caught on camera, arrested on the spot, pleaded guilty, needed no defence team or medical reports/autopsies/forensics, had a jury ready and waiting, a readily available gallows and no appeals process.
Apart from that there may be something in what you say.
//It's a pity that the same message isn't sent out to some of the knife wielding gangs on our cities' streets. //

I think the defendant indicated he would plead guilty.

I dont think anyone would be doing that when it comes to stabbing with a zombie knife
And more nonsense. Where have we said we support cases/people like the one you mention? You need to take a break
// Are you really a teacher? If so that would explain enough.//

I am always ready to improve things: that should be

Are you really a teacher? If so that would explain why the children on the streets today are untamed.
^ For the avoidance of doubt, my post was for retrocop, PP not you.

Are you eligible for jury service? You didn't take long to satisy yourself that this is a clear cut case did you? Guilty by video and you question me!!!
"Mitchell, 27, admitted assault and encroachment on to the pitch at Birmingham Magistrates' Court earlier." He pleaded guilty. Was there a jury here anyway?
There is no death sentence here. Why you need to rant about me and spath for having "warped sensibilities" and being " the very type of liberal do gooders who let this happen" I have no idea. We just recognise reality. Try the Home Secretary or your MP
yes or no FF
I realise that there was some to-and-fro
immoderate comment and coruscating replies

( and I thought : i'll have some of the gin he is on waaay - haay !)

I have no idea why you thought it necessary to question my previous profession either!
