I have read about Cope before and do confess to being impressed that there is at least one MP who is prepared to challenge sloppily transcribed or written legislation. We all know the sort. The yoo man rites laws that were supposed to protect ordinary people, but are so loosely defined that they are more often used to do the opposite. The data protection acts that instead of protecting the end user are so ill gotten that they are of more use to the big corporations and establishment figures that they were supposedly designed to reign in. If the wording of this legislation is so open to perverse interpretation we should be giving thanks. I can only imagine the "howls" a few months down the line when parents are hauled before the beak and imprisoned because they have had male children circumcised for health or religious reasons. You know it would happen don't you? There are many amongst us who work tirelessly to cause friction and despair. They hide within the civil service and behind legal blurred lines to do their sly manipulation of right and wrong.

if he objects to every private member's bill on the same grounds, he at least has a philosophical point, though he might be better to take it up with the chaps who set up parliamentary procedures (which might be Bercow, I don't know).

If he doesn't, then he's being obnoxious.

Upskirting did become illegal, and there have been a couple of prosecutions. Does anyone know if Chope ever did speak for or against it?

Yes, it is. The good intentions of the legislator are irrelevant: to be effective a law must be well-formualted and enforced.

Was going on to say that however the law (if it becomes such) is formulated it is unlikely to influence the practice. Very few protection orders are currently isued, but when they are no prosecutions result.

I'll stick by my original appraisal of him thanks andy.
If he was concerned about PMB's across the board it's one thing, but he isn't so I think he falls into the catagory of ignorant, arrogant (probably uncut) bell ends.
Incidentally despite being Jewish I'm against circumcision for boys too unless there is a medical need Togo. No need whatsoever to assault babies for social or religious reasons.

Silly old me. Correction: [i]no girls in Bristol have ever been flown to Somalia for "cutting".

The documentart I watched last year had a team consisting jointly of police and social services investigating just this practice and just such flights. Evidently fake news.

There’s a huge gulf of credibility between ‘jumbo load(s)’ of girls being flown out and it happening. I’m sure it does happen but you did nothing to increase your credibility in making such exaggerated claims.

I think there are around 3 changes in a flight from Bristol to Aden Adde.

Maybe there’s something in Latin which will renew your credibility? Maybe not.
