No a daft idea. Leave it to the schools to police as many already do.
You can put all sorts of restrictions on smartphone usage. Like it or not they are now part of modern life and it seems like a case of “leapback” to ban them.
Banned in class and in school time perhaps but schools should already be doing that.
Yes. I would go further to say young children should only have phones that are only used as phones for calls or for messaging as a safety measure, out of school as well! No smart phones!
At the last place I worked all phones had to be either left in your car or in a locker (one at the entrance to every building on the site).
How the heck did I manage to get to school(5 miles),attend my lessons, and come home again without a cell phone. No calculators either. Just a book of logs and pencil and ruler.
No, and they are usually banned in classes anyhow.
The problem with this, and I daresay only the teachers will fully understand, is enforcing it. You can blithely say they are not allowed in class now but disciplining that is an uphill struggle in some schools, especially with many parents deeming them a necessity.
back in the day, we had no phones..except in the school office bakelites and only used in an emergency dead or dying, kept polished as well, the cane was polished as well...
No.
oh..and we had a neighbor, we are told had a phone, but that was a rumour.
fender reminds me of the 1960s when few people had a phone and those that did would often let their neighbours use them for emergencies. A friend of ours had a phone and got a call one day; the caller asked for Mrs Bloggs. "I'll go and get her", our friend said. "Oh, are you the maid" was the response. I think the phone service for her was terminated at that point.
Well that’s progress. Personally I feel phones should not be permitted in the classrooms.

My husband is not allowed smart phones in the office, there are lockers provided and you lock them away as you enter the building, the company has provided dumb phones so that clients can reach him and if I need him in an emergency I can reach him.
So in the same way schools should provide phone lockers and you get detention if you are caught using them.
principle, your there to work...something this new generation, does not understand.., example worked as a welder in an huge, what looked like an aircraft hanger back in the day, probably was, anyway..no heating obviously.., tea time lunch, gaffers discreation, pay was an envelope, today...mmm all weak, hey but so much better mmm, if there was a war..that effected the home front, the younger generation would surrender...err can i keep my phone, shut up

Ban e'm.
Parents think their little darlings will be safer if they have a phone for emergencies and therefore legitimise them having them on their person all day. Funnily enough, I travelled 18 miles each way to school on public transport daily from the age of 8 until 18 and never needed a phone.......

Far better than banning them would be to have enforceable rules about acceptable use - teachers and schools have got far better things to do than *** about confiscating and reuniting hundreds of phones each day.
