//BBC confirms viewers will have to fork out more for their TV licence as the cost rises to £154.50 from April 1.

Dozens of people have complained about the price hike on Twitter, saying that the licence already costs too much and asking if it is now time to 'scrap' the system.//

We pay around £50 / month for Sky. The value of the BBC is hereby evidenced.
If they do another series of Line of Duty, and keep broadcasting similar, then I'm happy to pay it. It's a treat not to have keep fast forwarding adverts.
It was time to scrap the system and fund out of general taxation the moment the present system started.
I do like Aunty Beeb because we don't get annoying ad breaks, but I usually only watch things that I've recorded, so I can skip through the ads. So that doesn't matter too much.

I take so little notice of the fee that I don't even know how much it will rise by.

If the system were to be scrapped perhaps the presenters would get paid what they're worth rather than the silly millions some are getting now.
only a matter of time before it is scrapped..rightly so...
£154.50 to watch repeats,not bad , saves recording .
think we should all come out of the BBC with " No Deal"

Two differences come to mind. You can choose not to pay to Sky if you don't want it. Second, it's much harder from freeloaders to get Sky without paying- with the licence fee the honest are subsidising those viewers who are avoiding payment.
I'd much rather it be funded from general taxation- and that the budget be reduced. Some BBC shows are important to keep, eg radio 4 and some documentaries, but there are lots of programmes which could just as easily be done on commercial channels/SKy/BT etc

I'd like it to be scrapped but to be fair presenters do often seem to be able to get more if they move to a commercial channel.
I'd happily buy a telly that has no BBC !! don't watch much on it anyway..
Should have been scrapped years ago in this day and age it is ridiculous.

Comparing Sky is pointless, as pointed out Sky is a choice. We could also say you can get Freeview for free or you can have Amazon for around £80 and get Prime delivery thrown in. Again it's a choice the BBC is not and you have to pay for the BBC to have freeview. How is that right?

If people want the BBC then make is sa subscription service. If it is as good as people claim and the numbers people claim want it then it will survive, otherwise it wont. But there will be choice.
I was more aiming my comment at quality vs price than the choice issue. The Beeb still make cracking programmes and I’m more than happy paying the license fee.
But I am not happy to pay it and I dont watch BBC unless they have taken the rights to the Rugby so why should I pay for your viewing?
I neither know nor care.
But just happy for me to pay for your viewing then I must assume.
Yep.
no, I think It's amazingly cheap for the BBC delighted to pay it.
Ooooph! You’ll have upset your minion there.
I wouldn’t mind paying it if it weren’t so biased.

It’s not known a the Biased Broadcasting Corperation for nothing.

If things were reported evenly I’d be fine but it isn’t.

If you take Brexit in just current topic. When the Beeb use the scare and project fear terms like cliff edge, chaos (at the ports or any number of areas the use it on), in spite of and all the other terms you see how biased it is. They rarely or consistently promote the positives and how to get around the either actual or perceived problems.

They don’t promote the positives and they are there.
I think it should be on subscription too. I'm not worried about having it.
