About time they cracked down on this. I hope she gets jail time as it will be a stronger deterent to others contemplating this dreadful practice.
Good news, hoping it sends out a clear message - a start at least.

Poor children.
Very good. And i'm not sure to the latter

I know it's quite different.. But in america male genital mutilation happens daily and is in fact a norm. More % of men in the USA have their genitalia mutilated than not.
I hope this does deter FMG and not just deter those responsible from seeking medical attention if FGM goes wrong, which is how this case was reported.
Good
Up to 14 months in Jail.

Well we will see wont we. It's a pity we cannot name and shame too.

I see they are Ghanaian according to the BBC. Should be deported too.
Way past high time. Let's hope it's the start of a turnaround.
young, naming the parents would identify the child. That would be very wrong.

Maximum sentence is 14 years and the mother has been remanded in custody until sentencing.
I know that, that is why I said it's a pity.

I am wondering how close to max we will see. I'm doubting 14 months
The courts will want to set an example now they've finally been able to convict. I'm estimating 10 years.

Ugandan Witches should be imprisoned, sterilised and thenndeported. What chance does a young child have living in a civilised country being bought up in a ignorant barbaric stone age culture?
At least all the other witches now know that their spells and curses don't work against UK officialdom
Poor child doesnt Retro.

Deport the mother and let the child stay.

they said up to 14 years o the news, not 14 months
spath you are right....it seems to be a much more accepted thing for boys.
FGM can't be compared to circumcision. My sex life was even better after I had it done - my wife has no complaints either.
It shouldn’t happen to a boy unless it’s for medical reasons – but circumcision doesn’t compare to FGM.
should be deported, that would send a clear message..ie no more living on benefits free accommodation etc, back to your @!ihole
if a bloke chooses to have it done thats fine but I think that circumcising babies and children without a good medical reason is unnacceptable.....same as piercing babies' ears
About time. Vile and inhumane practice.

Why the hell would anyone want to do that to their child!
