...but if their report is correct and the second (currently) pictrue of Philip driving his new Land Rover was taken today then it looks like he may have been off-roading from the flora/twigs attched to the underside of his vehicle.

What would folk be saying about both the Queen and Duke driving without seatbelts if they were just an ordinary Darby and Joan driving in their nineties?

Heaven help any member of the police force who has to suggest to the Duke that he should voluntarily surrender his driving licence!

The DOE does have a driving licence but like many drivers of his age has never passed a driving test.

From what I have read so far the DOE should be charged with dangerous driving and have his license withdrawn. However I won't hold my breath waiting for his court appearance.
I prefer to wait for the outcome of the investigation rather than become a barrack room lawyer
Mallyj, Have you some evidence of dangerous driving, or is it just pure speculation?
i would imagine the law about seatbelts does not apply on your own private land
Bednobs, no, it doesn't.
They don't have a licence
Question Author
Reports I have read say they have both driven on public roads.
Regarding 'dangerous driving', I can offer a personal experience that was similar to what happened near Sandringham. I was driving around a small roundabout, and was about to leave the roundabout, when my car was hit on the left side by a driver who did not give way. I, like one of the ladies in the Sandringham accident, sustained a broken wrist. My car was not turned over, but it was off the road for 9 weeks. The police were called, and agreed that the other driver was in the wrong. I asked my insurance company to let me know if the other driver was prosecuted for a driving offence, but I heard nothing about that. It could happen - with the Sandringham accident - that nobody is prosecuted, despite the serious appearance of the incident.
Pond HM the queen legally does not need a licence but I believe DOE does have a licence

Rockrose, apparently Buck House have not commented when asked if the Duke has a licence.

bookbinder, that must have been a bitter pill to swallow on top of your injury and lengthy car repair.
There was a piccy today of the queen driving on a public rd without a seatbelt
The DOE does have a driving licence but like many drivers of his age has never passed a driving test.
The majority of car accidents results in no prosecution and no penalty of any kind
Thank you Hc.
Choux, yes it was a bitter pill to swallow. The accident could have easily been avoided. I like to think that I'm a philosophical person, but my attitude can sometimes be severely tested, and perhaps the 2 ladies in the Sandringham incident are being similarly tested right now.
Question Author
I wondered the same, bookbinder.

HC, you are quite correct, my father fell into the same category as the Duke re: licence and test.

if true then the BBC are also peddling an inaccuracy today...

I'm content to let the Police and other agencies sort out the legalities, hopefully fairly and squarely.
