Apparently this is even deemed ‘progress’ for them!

Islam eh, who needs it?

The perfect post brexit trading partner. Let’s sell them more instuments of genocide.
Damned if they do, damned if they don't - the "smear Islam" wagon rolls on.
wow, i didn't know that they allowed their women to have mobiles ...

what's different - all that is needed is to be hoiked in front of an Imam and the man to say "I divorce you, I divorce you, I divorce you" and whammo, that's it.
I once went to a Saudi strip-tease show and the men were all shouting, "Show us yer face, show us yer face!"
Phwoar!
Long way to go, but still better than being uninformed.
(Probably more apt to disapprove of the government's attitude to women, than the religion's; it makes the laws.)

The government of Saudi Arabia can’t be regarded as separate from the religion. It utilises religious law – Sharia.
In the list of what Saudi women cannot do without permission of a male guardian, the most bizarre one is leaving prison. How strange is that?

I take it you approve of the way Saudi’s treat their women then, Canary?

Truly pathetic.....
Saudi men, on the whole, tend to feel that their attitude to women is that of protection and the attitude of Saudi women is that of male protection. They were born with this notion and maintain it throughout their lives and so isn't a problem for the majority.

Saudi women are not as naive or hard done by as you might imagine.
//Saudi men, on the whole, tend to feel that their attitude to women is that of protection and the attitude of Saudi women is that of male protection. //

As long as they do as they're told... and even then they're obliged, among other things, to accept being dumped by text. There's respect for you!!
talaq is easy - and is moderated by the courts (!)
what was that? - there is MORE to divorcing than saying just saying the formula ( or condicio as the latins would say)

and it was possible to do it wivvart notice. This means the lady in question knows.

so chilldo - it is not worf losing your head over ( pun intended )

// It utilises religious law – Sharia.//
yes so s/o is almost there - there is a body of rules that moderates the strict rules laid down in the quran - which means there must be a source of Law other than the Quran.

some bright spark is gonna say - foo! I didnt realise that mobiles featured in the Quran rather than goat-skin. and so we see that there is a moderating system that operates. To criticise it - perhaps we should know more about what it is before we do it.

( a bit like criticizing the Bible wivvart ever having read it - oh we dont do THAT on AB do we?)
naomi.......believe me, there is no easy or less pleasant way to "dump a woman" or indeed a correct or decent way.
A man has to do what a man has to do.
//which means there must be a source of Law other than the Quran. //

There is. The sunnah and the hadith. Wot dem den?
madness, they'll be letting them drive next!
naomi....LOL...LOL ^^^^^Wot dem den?
excellent
there is progress

// Islamic law is based upon four main sources: the Quran, the Sunnah or practices of the Prophet Muhammad, Ijma' and the Qiyas.// - wot all dey den?
y'all know that Onassis was at his death
