This one's a head scratcher.

A bloke tortures a woman over a three day period, put her into a coma which lasts over a week and gets a minimum of seven year, even though the maximum sentence for attempted murder is life.

I've heard the argument that the judiciary are a bunch of liberals, which is why sentences are so short nowadays, but surely that can't be the only reason behind this (apparently) lenient sentence?

The judiciary are most unlikely ever to be victims of murder, so they couldn't give a fig.
Terrible case. One has to assume there was a reason it wasn't treated as attempted murder; but in any case he doesn't seem to be a low enough risk to be out in public society again.
Here's what the judge will have had in front of him when determining the appropriate sentence:

Anybody has the right to ask for a Crown Court sentence (for a relevant offence) to be reviewed if they believe that it's too lenient; they don't need to have any connection to the case:

Just so, 42 - the Crime/Judiciary industry is booming and locking up all the baddies forever would cause a recession...
The evil git actually got a life sentence with a minimum 7 years 140 days tariff. Hope the bstrd never gets out, chances are he wont.
Give them sentences American style

And how could it have been over a three day period?

That suggests that he had the woman kidnapped, or at least held against her will.

And all this means that it couldn't be a crime of passion, because try as you might - it's not possible to stay angry for three days.
actually yes it is. I was angry day and night for at least a week when my husband died.

For an 'Attempted Murder' charge the police have to be CERTAIN that the perpetrator really WAS intending to KILL the victim, rather than just injure them. That was not possible in this case. It looks like the perpetrator was trying to cause harm and suffering , but not actually murder them.
Remember that it is a MINIMUM sentence. That means the case can only start to be considered for possible parole after 7 years. In reality it will be a lot longer before they actually get out.
better check with TROB SP.
Who are they then?
Your stalkers with you TTT!
Not sure why the Mirror has this on their site now as the sentence was passed in December 2017. I'm also not sure why EDDIE thinks he wasn't charged with attempted murder since he pled guilty to that charge.
