i have said all along its a wasted vote, she will stay in power. I don't like it but what is worse, a leadership challenge then what.
Unpredictable- what is said to a Sky reporter may well be different to what happens in a secret ballot.
May depend on how honest the public declarations of support are. BBC's most recent tweet, meanwhile, has upped the number in favour of May to 172 at least.

I guess we'll see how honest they are. But the rebels have in principle another way of bringing her down, once she finally puts the deal to Parliament, if they ally with Labour and the SNP to vote against the deal.
I said as much on another thread. Another complete farce.
Sky news has just reported that Downing Street has hinted she is going to stand down.

that wont bring her down jim, they can't have another VONC for at least a year. We'll end up brexiting with no deal. She'll have enough to prevent a GE in the house so that's that for at least a year.
clutching at power Mrs May will stay, but getting this deal through is a different ball game..
Question Author
the deal will not pass as it is emmie, if the EUSSR won't budge it'll be a no deal brexit.
sherrard watching sky, they are still talking about the vote of no confidence.
Question Author
sharrard, I've heard no such hint and she is now well over the amount needed in public declarations so I'd be surprised if she stands down now.
But this must show her how much she is not trusted and should not simply carry on as usual but change the way she is doing th8ngs.
Theresa May holds a poisoned chalice, I do not envy her her task. All that the MPs in her own party are seemingly plotting against her, have any of them come up with a better plan? There is no point bitching about what she has done or what she has not achieved if they are not going to be proactive in coming up with an alternative. To have a Power struggle at the present time is not doing the country a good service, and that is what MPs are in place today to serve their country, not Manipulating an enviable position to pander to their own egos. Frankly there maybe a time to adjust a leader who no longer has the confidence of the party, but this is not the time, they should be ashamed of themselves. This is not some run-of-the-mill political spat, we have never been in the position of leaving the Common Market before. Chances are if she loses the vote there will be a general election within the next six months which could mean we end up with Corbyn and his mathematical genius friend Diane Abbott in power!
I do believe there has been an alternative plan floated but it has been resoundly kicked into touch.

Not because it isn’t doable but because the EU don’t want it to work. With technology already available the I/NI border is a non issue but people believe the EU (and the remainer MPs).

Project fear sits high on the wall looking down on the chaos remainers have made and laughing with glee.
"...if the EUSSR won't budge it'll be a no deal brexit."

I wish I could, but I don't share your optimism, 3Ts. One way or another the Commons will find a method to prevent that. When (or if) the current deal is put to Parliament and defeated the government has until January 21st to announce what it plans to do. Leaving with No Deal (i.e. properly, as the question on the referendum paper and the propaganda beforehand suggested) will not be among the options.

Quite honestly Mrs May's travails or of no interest to me. I'd prefer she went but that's as enthusiastic I can get about her future. I'm more concerned with the future of the UK (beyond the end of next week) than with any politician's career prospects. It is my view that she created this mess by bringing back to Parliament a "deal" which splits the UK in two for as long as the EU thinks fit. We must now rely on the collective will of the Commons to rescue Brexit but since most of them want to remain I'll not hold my breath.
I agree, NJ. I have no faith whatsoever in Brexit happening. Never have.
Naomi, Leaving the EY on 25th March is enshrined in law.For it not to happen would entail an act of Parliament which won't happen.
^EU^
"...that wont bring her down jim, they can't have another VONC for at least a year. "

If May wins tonight's vote, that doesn't stop Parliament as a whole calling one -- and in that case, the Tory rebels could presumably try again, relying on Labour and SNP support to effectively force a leadership change or force a General Election.
Jim, if she wins tonight then she cannot face a confidence vote until December 2019.
I think Sherrard's sky news hint is that Theresa May might promise to stand down within the next year, but see this process through. I am not sure how true the rumour is, but if it *is* true then I can't see how it while appease the Brexiteers.
