A lot has been said about another referendum, and I tend to agree that we should have another one, but with this big proviso.

It should be, that like Australia with general elections, it should be made compulsory for all the electorate here to vote in any second referendum. Most people now have a much clearer idea of what they really want, after listening to the remain or leave camps over the past couple of years.

This way we will truly know what the actual voters seek. I would add, that as well as a box on the voting slip for a 'remain' or 'leave' vote, there would have to be a third box for the 'don't knows', although I would hope that it would be virtually redundant.

Ditto a masters in physics, nuclear power might be debated, can the unemployed be allowed to vote on taxation as they don't pay it and are net recipients, can the child-fee vote on children's matters etc etc., it could be a very slippery slope!
There was a suggestion that 'old' people, like me, shouldn't have had a vote in the referendum as it won't impact upon them, they allegedly 'all' voted to go although I know no-one who did in my aged circle.
When you start interfering with universal suffrage you're asking for trouble.
vetuste_ennemi ///.... party manifesto stuff is decided by amateurs rather than experts? And often not very bright amateurs at that?///

Decided by? Written by.
When we have the second referendum I think the answer will be to remain, now that the original remainers have stopped dreaming, and realised they are living in the Real World.
08.13 "Original Leavers" Oops!.
00:47 baldric, implying someone has ‘lost’ is implying someone has ‘won’.. no one has won, there are no winners, no one got what they voted for.
"Intelligence" is not mentioned once in the bible.
Freudian slip there gulliver1?
You lost, Spath. Get over it.
Gulliver, you had a choice of two words in your answer....and managed to pick the wrong one. Lol, no wonder they call you Vi.
The idea that people in this day and age need to qualify to have the right to vote is ridiculous.

They can just Google the information they need, possibly even posting it online as an aid to others.

No actual knowledge required beforehand. :-P
You need IQ not economics to make wise decisions.

Compulsory voting is an infringement of a person's right not to approve of any option. It's bullying folk to do something they have every right to abstain from. 'Don't know' options merely imply individual lack of understanding/intelligence, they are not only not covering 'none of the above', nor 'don't care' but are also forcing folk to physically go do something they choose not to. It's unreasonable, and nations that practice it should be ashamed.

I think it quite clear that another referendum is merely dismissing the result of the first, and is therefore unacceptable. The fact that remainers in the government cheated by sending out remain propaganda, and yet still lost, doesn't nullify the result.

We already have a path which has no need nor justification to be changed. We have a leaving date. All concerned had 2 years to sort out trade agreements/future relationship for after the event, and yet they wasted the time trying to work out how much one could sting the UK for leavin, and how to try to keep us under EU control whilst having no say.

A daft arrangement detrimental to the UK has been suggested which, if MPs have any sanity, will be slung out (perhaps along with the PM who pushed for it). That just leaves us all with no deal left when the date arrives; and so we simply drop out of the EU with nothing agreed.

There's no justification for trying to change any of that agreed process, and possibly no right to do so either. No moral right for sure.

The most intelligent real-life action I have come across for some time is from recently reading Robert Hughes' biography Things I didn't Know and that was done by an 'uneducated' Australian aborigine and it saved his life.
Winning the referendum vote counts as winning.

Winning the consequential negotiations is that which never occurred; as much that was discussed seems to be that which should never have been discussed, leaving little time left for the important decisions. Where is the new trade agreement ? Some small document with the vague suggestion that they might put in some detail later; and which looks rather dodgy already.
Gulliver, see the post at 08.28.
But polls eh ?
How respected are deltapoll ?
Probably 75% for leave by now, after how we've been treated.
"you lost"

No, we're in this together, as a nation. No one has won, or lost, we're voting for the best for everyone. The whole ideology of win / loose (in this situation) is the process of dividing people into two, and competing against them. It's malicious.

No one has won, that's for sure.. so no one has 'lost'. That entire ideology, is negative and foolish.
compulsory voting by it's very nature is undemocratic. We had a vote in June 2016, high turn out, that's good enough for me.
Spath, those in the majority of a referendum- winners, those in the minority-losers.
Well it was all based on hypothetical theories (none of which came true) so that's not good enough for me. But hey ho, it would be undemocratic to let people vote with some actual facts at hand.
