The first pantomime I saw at the age of 6 was at the Empire theatre in Newcastle. The Beverley sisters were the leading act. The reason I remember it is because in the theatre I began to feel unwell, and when I got home it was found that I had contracted German measles.
Always glam and always smiling, fond memories.
Oh how sad. I sort of grew up with them. The Empire, JD? Was that on Westgate Road?
No, Newgate Street, going down from the Haymarket towards the Cloth market/Groat market.
Gotcha.
That is sad, RIP Babs.
Quite a coincidence that she was the same age of 91 as her older sister Joy who died 3 years ago.

Such popular entertainers of their day and it takes over a fortnight for news of her death to be released.
I just about remember the Beverly sisters.
RIP Babs.

The twins elder sister Joy was the first Pop star ( pop for the time ) to marry a football star ( that I know of ) Billy Wright ( Wolves, boo hiss ).
Yes and that marriage effectively brought their career to an end.
Not Billy's though.
