….after a woman who called the Prophet Mohammed a paedophile had her conviction upheld.

I’ve had a quick look and it appears that laws relating to blasphemy – albeit rather vaguely in some instances – are still in existence in some European countries.

One would have hoped that the ECHR – reputedly the doyen of fairness and good judgement - would be in full support of freedom of speech and expression for all, but clearly not. Worrying? I think so.

'The first problem of the European Court of Human Rights decision against Elisabeth Sabaditsch-Wolff is that it means that, at least in cases of blasphemy, truth is not a defence. Such a judgement hands over the decision on what is or is not allowed to be said not to a European or national court, but to whoever can claim, plausibly or otherwise, that another...

So the ECHR did uphold a domestic law. Maybe if you posted more concisely in the salient points you might avoid such basic contradictions?
The ECHR's remit is not to "uphold" domestic law. If someone had been tortured, for instance, the ECHR would not determine that his human rights had not been violated because domestic law allowed it.
(It shouldn't be such hard work with someone who clearly thinks he's go an IQ of 180+, should it?)
V-E:
11:48 The remit of the ECHR is to decide whether a person's rights under the European Convention have been violated, not whether he'd been correctly convicted under the domestic law.

12:16 The ECHR agreed [ ) with the Austrian court's judgment

You see how I’m confused with your logic.
The reason for such extremism from Muslims is both the desire to virtue-signal how devout they are to their fellow morons, (I mean Muslims) and a genuine fear that they might end up in hell if they do not follow the will of Allah. They believe that hell is an eternal abode for those who enter it, and that their suffering will continue forever, (and that folks is a lot of suffering!) It isdescribed in several verses in the Koran, e.g.

[i] They will long to leave the Fire, but never will they leave there from; and theirs will be a lasting torment. (Quran 5:37) [i]
To which extremist event are you referring, Khan?
Where to start; what about Asia Bibi?
In this thread, Khan. You said ‘such’ extremism, implying there has been some discussion on a particular incident.

Such a judgement hands over the decision on what is or is not allowed to be said not to a European or national court, but to whoever can claim, plausibly or otherwise, that another individual has risked "the peace."'
